Not because you won, but because you stood up, you weren't afraid, and you did what you thought was right ; Speed, I know every child has to leave home. Mark WhiteSE 09-30-2008, 05:20 AM I just saw this weekend: Spike Lee's Miracle at St Ana..excellent film all around...good reminder that Nazi shit only happened 63 years ago... Righteous Kill....dissapointed really....DeNiro just does nothing for me as well as Pacino...they have been phoning it in since who knows when... Celt 09-30-2008, 05:29 AM Miracle At St. Anna is definately on my "to do" list as far as new movies go. Yesterday I watched Neil Simon's "Murder By Death" (1976) and laughed till I had tears in my eyes. It's a send-up of characters from great detective novels (and movies) from the 30's/40's. Stars: David Niven, Peter Sellers, Truman Capote, Eileen Brennan, Peter Falk, Sir Alec Guiness, Maggie Smith and more. If you love to laugh and enjoy film noir, you'll get a kick out of seeing it. Drybasement 10-01-2008, 03:07 PM Michael Clayton Intriguing story of a law firm "fixer" who becomes the target of execution in a case that's gone bad. Intelligent and well acted. Eric H 10-20-2008, 08:02 PM Absolutely stunning restoration in full Technorama Widescreen (i.e. it's really wide!) This film is truly a work of animation art and amazing to see in it's original format. There's also a short film about the Grand Canyon on this disc that's just fantastic, it originally played along with Sleeping Beauty in the theaters back in 58, no dialog at all in that one, just "Scenes from the Grand Canyon set to Ferde Grofé's "Grand Canyon Suite." It won an Oscar for best short. soundmotor 10-21-2008, 06:31 PM Speed Racer I watched this one on Blu Ray. Cosmic 11-23-2008, 09:44 PM We watched our first Bela Tarr film, "Werckmeister Harmonies" (I picked it as an 'entry film' of his, not wanting to go straight into the extremely long "Satantango") and while it is not what you'd ever call mainstream, it is a very beautiful, moody film, done by someone who really has a complete vision of what he wants on-screen. The imagery and moods truly stay with you. C. vinylviola 11-23-2008, 09:46 PM I saw Disney's 'Bolt' last night in 3-D. The movie wasn't as bad as I was expecting, though it's no Pixar film. Not your dad's Bond movie for sure. Spectacular locations and nonstop action. Oh and the beautiful women, but no Q! I saw it the other day as well and thought it was pretty well done, I liked it. Daniel Craig makes a good Bond in my opinion, although different I think its a good different. Brett a 12-01-2008, 10:52 AM "Ray" I don't have very high expectations of Hollywood movies, but this one really surprised me! I was blown away at how Jamie Foxx really channels Ray Charles. Even though recent events have tamed the emotions about 2000 somewhat, this film is an excellent reminder that our electoral system -- the foundation of our democracy -- is still broken. Fixing it should be a high priority issue and handled in a NON-partisan manner. As a movie, it was very well done. Excellent acting (especially the James Baker and Katherine Harris parts), and the film holds one's attention throughout despite knowing the outcome (not quite as gripping as Apollo 13, but you get the idea). Very powerful drama of man who inherits his father's business, and all the family problems attached to it. Stripped down and honest, with great acting. C. outshined 01-05-2009, 04:24 PM I watched a 1997 film entitled "Cube" About 5 people who suddenly find themselves in a gigantic Rubiks Cube type environment, and the different rooms are booby trapped in one way or another. The rooms move to a different position, at certain intervals. The trick is trying to get out of the enormous cube. Not an easy task. But, the rooms are numbered, and these numbers hold the key to escape to the "outer shell." This is an Indy film, but well worth your time. It plays on IFC from time to time. Very high production values, good acting, and a ponderable ending. I was helping a friend and after dinner she put it on. Set in Australia, although it could've taken place anywhere in the American West. It had the typical greedy, power hunger, big cattle baron, western story. Instead of indians there were aborigines. Since it took place in 1939 during WWII it got kinda interesting when the Japanese came to visit. I liked it, I like westerns, even though the plot is kinda weak, it was entertaining. The Aussie lingo is fun too, but it's a long ass movie. rvito 03-23-2009, 12:46 PM A Bronx Tale............. :thmbsp::thmbsp::thmbsp::thmbsp::thmbsp: pmsummer 03-23-2009, 12:46 PM "Mostly Martha" The 2001 German film (that the Catherine Zeta-Jones feature "No Reservations" was based upon... scene by scene in some cases). It's a light romantic-comedy (in German :scratch2: ) about two chefs and a pre-teen. Martha is much superior. :thmbsp: MichaelJ 03-23-2009, 12:52 PM Duplicity: Clive Owen and Julia Roberts. Sort of a cloak and dagger thriller but with Cooperate Spies. Very snappy dialog between the actors. Extremely well done with an ending that is quite a surprise. I enjoyed it immensely and Julia Roberts looks better than ever. 2DualsNotEnough 03-23-2009, 07:40 PM I saw Duplicity, also.Julia does look great, and those two have wonderful chemistry. Jimmy Cosmic 03-23-2009, 10:02 PM Tim Burton's "Sweeney Todd". Great acting all around, beautiful cinematography and production design, but somehow I found the film somewhat depressing. I like black humor and weird films, but this just didn't do it for me. Maybe just my mood that day....:scratch2: Ok, so one thumb up and one down, for the moment. "The Tall Blonde Man with One Brown Shoe"; French 70es spy comedy. It had been a while since I saw that last. Very funny stuff about a musician mistaken for a spy, and he's utterly unaware of it. Some great moments and some very dry humor. Well worth checking out, also for its 70es fashions and surroundings (and for the sexy Mireille Darc.) :thmbsp: C. reggaenaut 03-23-2009, 10:28 PM Tim Burton's "Sweeney Todd". Asha 03-24-2009, 12:32 AM The Watchmen. I was surprised at how much I liked it. carbonman 03-24-2009, 08:31 AM We were both disappointed in "Duplicity". When is Clive Owen going to start doing good movies again? "The International" was a disappointment too. whyaskit 03-25-2009, 05:52 AM Bolt. It was ok. donoghue 03-26-2009, 10:50 PM Elizabeth, the Golden Age-- I avoided this for a long time because I liked the first one a lot and suspected this one would be a disappointment. I was right, though it was not bad. Sweeney Todd the Demon Barber-- This one surprised me, I didn't even realize that it was a musical until I got it home. There were many moments where I had to pause the film and just laugh at how outrageous a line or action was. Tim Burton does not bore. I liked it a lot.
