"It's terrific!"

- Citizen Kane

That has got to be the worst tagline ever. A 5 year old could have thought of that.

Best taglines:

Star Wars: A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away

Blazing Saddles: Never give a saga an even break

Worst tagline:

Speed 2: As the stakes get higher, the ride gets even faster
(Actually the tagline was the best part of that movie)

I can see how that might stick in a guy's mind.

Back in the 70s, I picked up a few bucks voicing a radio spot for a straight-to-drivein flick called "1,000 Convicts and a Woman". Great copy:
"To (whatever her name was), prison was a giant playground...full of men. To take, to make..to break..to do with as she pleased. (Big ballz voice now) 1,000 Convicts and a Woman! Rated R...in theatres near you now."

Hey, John. Back in the 70's and early 80's, I was a commercial producer working out of Chicago and I did a lot of work in the Twin Cities.

I wonder if we know each other.

Mmmm...kinda doubt it. I worked in Mpls. from 1979 to 1987, but only was able to snag one agency spot. Even though I was AFTRA, theatre types and freelancers got the lion's share of agency work, with radio people pretty much shunned. The movie spot was done when I worked in Fargo. A guy had gotten the distribution rights for ND, SD, Montana, Wyoming and Nebraska for that fine piece of film, and had booked it into a whole wad of drive-ins. Put together a radio campaign to pump up interest.

I remember some of the Blaxploitation flicks of the '70s as being often unintentionally hysterically funny-sky-high Afros birds could nest in, improbable plot lines, the requisite Eldorado tricked out in full Pimpmobile regalia...and the taglines...Oh, Dear God.."Sweet Sweetback's a BADASS Dude..."

I loved the second tagline in Blazing Saddles:"From the studio that brought you "The Jazz Singer".
