Hugh Laurie does a pretty good job of dishing it out on "House".

Yeah, but he had to go ruin it by adopting a female first name for his sur-name...

I'm sure that was TMI - to much information

for the record, I am not metrosexual

but you are right.. more and more of the TV shows feature metrosexual men these days. The trend started a few years ago.

laffs i can hardly stand shaving my face..what a bunch of silly sh*t

Ah, yesss...The Lumberjack Song...I remember working at this place right after college, that had about half old farts & the other half kids my age..I'd sing that, the old guys would look at me all fish-eyed, but the kids all "got it" & laughed...Generational thing, I guess..

It is interesting to look at what constitutes a 'man' in a series or film from Hollywood these days. I cannot personally look at 99% of any of it to begin with for many other reasons, but one of the few real actors in a TV series is Alec Baldwin.

Having heard he was in the show, I watched about 15mins of '30 Rock' for the first and only time before the nerdy, ersatz-Saturday Night Live 'aren't we hip' humor drove me away, and Baldwin landed a good one, describing his school days, being sentenced to sweep sawdust in the basement with another student who is out of his mind. Even fat as Alec is now, he still has that 'I don't give a fuck' quality.

Baldwin in 'Glengarry Glen Ross' (when he was still lean and dangerous) is one of the many reasons I love that film: a completely unapologetic depiction of capitalism and of how it can take all the 'manly' attributes and turn people into animals in a heartbeat.
Baldwin's "You see pal. That's who I am and you are NOTHING" is, for my money, the best 'John Wayne' moment in years. Because he ain't kidding.

It'll never be done, but wouldn't it be a hoot if they remade "The High & the Mighty" from 1954, starring John Wayne & Robert Stack...Talk about testosterone...Hell, even the women in this flick were Hard Boiled...Actually, they COULD remake this one because it deals w/"Feelings" & anguish & self-doubt, all the kind of stuff that New Men are all about...Yeah, & get some smart-ass rapper to do a remake of Dimitri Tiomkin's theme music...

Love that film. One of my favorite parts....

Baldwin: "We're adding a little something to this month's sales contest. As you all know, first prize is a Cadillac Eldorado. Anybody want to see second prize?
[Holds up prize] Second prize is a set of steak knives. Third prize is you're fired."

Doesn't get much realer than that...

Here's a youtube link. It's 7 minutes long, but it's riveting

Alec Baldwin's speech

Eastwood is the last of the "real men" IMHO. Back in the old days however, a LOT of women including my own mother.....considered Clint a handsome MAN as opposed to a "pretty boy".

Wish I was born with Eastwoods looks!

Now it is..... we are all equal here and your point is just as valid as my point even though you are only 1 week out of school and I don't want you to feel bad because you are just a girl and don't know as much as I do who has been on the force for 30 years, hey, ya wanna get a latte..... oh, sorry I called you a girl, do you need a hug....oh, wait, no I wasn't propositioning you, what I'm fired, why, because I have a hairy back and it scares people, I understand, and I am sorry.
amen, bro.
