Something Has Bugged me...
...For quite awhile on the flashy, stylish shows like "CSI", & "Criminal Minds". Those are just 2, but about ALL of 'em are like it- Ever notice how about all of the men on these shows are REALLY, REALLY good looking, but are rarely "Masculine" in a John Waybe sort of way ? They are not necessarily effeminate, but they DO tend to have delicate features, apparently are not all that tall or very large, massive-but that's hard to tell- & rarely have deep, husky, booming voices. If you see one of 'em w/his shirt off-which is quite often-he generally has the regulation 6-pack of abs-but no body hair. Are there any REAL He-Men left in entertainment any more ? Don't take this the wrong way, but shit, sometimes the guys are PURTIER than th' Girls.. Grrrrrr...Just a postscript- I would never have even looked at one of these shows had it not been for Lauriann recording them on the DVR- Prettyboys are most assuredly NOT my cup of tea...

Haven't watched any of these "new" shows since they came out.
But I understand what you're saying. If you watch "The First 48", you'll see what real detectives look like. NORMAL PEOPLE. |
The word I'm thinking of, Sandy, is "metrosexual".

:D But you're right- where are the "Manly Man" actors? Steve McQueen, John Wayne, Gene Hackman, Ernest Borgnine, Charles Bronson, Jack Elam, Lee Majors, Dan Haggerty, ect... |
Lee Majors, who is that?
|
they are indeed made to be metrosexual men..
men who keep fit, and often shave all body hair except their privates. this is what is the "in" thing for men today. They in a sense fill the gap between gay men and straight men.. but are usually straight. I'm sure that was TMI - to much information ;) for the record, I am not metrosexual :nono: but you are right.. more and more of the TV shows feature metrosexual men these days. The trend started a few years ago. |
Farewell, Duke, Jimmy Stewart, Charlton Heston, Jimmy Cagney....
|
If the men in todays shows acted like the real men back in the day, the storylines would be a whole lot different.
It would be about the abusive detective who tells women and perps to listen to what he says and do it. Now it is..... we are all equal here and your point is just as valid as my point even though you are only 1 week out of school and I don't want you to feel bad because you are just a girl and don't know as much as I do who has been on the force for 30 years, hey, ya wanna get a latte..... oh, sorry I called you a girl, do you need a hug....oh, wait, no I wasn't propositioning you, what I'm fired, why, because I have a hairy back and it scares people, I understand, and I am sorry. |

The only thing I shave is my face, head, and neck. Whatever's left can fall out on it's own.
|
My mother used to watch Magnum PI even though she didn't really care for the show, she loved Tom Selleck! I can't imgine one of todays metrosexuals playing him!!
|
I remember thinking to myself several years back when that movie "Interview With The Vampire" came out that, "Man, that Brad Pitt guy is PURTY"...And then I went, "WTF are you SAYING ?!? " (grin) But can you imagine ANY of the he-man stars of old even TOUCHING a role like that ?
|
I know that I only shave my face every 2 days....I cannot IMAGINE what it would be like to shave my body....
And Sandy, I completely agree. There are no more "Manly" Men on TV anymore....and it's sad....my generation is wooing over them.....:tears: |
