Laserdisc Enthusiasts>Helpful Tip:)
Hello Everyone, I google searched AK and nothing came up for this sort of "tip" I am about to share with you all. OK, now you all know that alot of movies on Laserdisc were 2 discs, some with 3 sides and some with four sides. Instead of having one player do double duty, have a second LD player for the second disc and all you have to do is switch inputs and hit play on the second player, there ya go. That saves alot of wear and tear on one player doing double duty, loading and unloading discs. Plus that way you don't have to get up in between discs to switch them out. To avoid remote troubles, I recommend utilizing a DVL player as primary and a older CLD player or other mfr. as secondary. The DVL & CLD Pioneers' Remotes are on a different infrared signal and won't interact with one another.

See what you've started? Now I've got all six of my DVL's lined up so I can view my entire Tom & Jerry box set in non-stop succession...

LOL, LD players are hardly BPC. All my CLD's, Elite's and DVL's are not Plastic fronts although they are black, they are in fact aluminum.

Not sure about my CLD-59 Elite and all of the DVL-909s - definitely aluminum front panels, but no rosewood & I'm not sure what the chassis are made of. They were also expensive when new, though. je |

My Yamaha...1700 IIRC I always forget the model # is all metal face GW find for cheap. It's rough looking, but works perfectly.
Flip down door solid metal, metal face, case is metal. It's heavy enough for a 1990 LD player. ...and I laughed just thinking of your suggestion Charlie. Hell, in some cases for some people it would actually put all those LD players to use so...why not? I do recall it was arduous having to flip the disc over, and then remove it and move on to the next one... I only experienced LD a few years ago when I got a player and 50 movies dumped on me. It all ended up being included with a large TV I sold when I had to move to my current smaller digs. But I kept The Professional...and I regret not keeping The Nightmare Before Christmas which I also have not bought on DVD yet...but have seen many times...

Pretty sure I'm at one DVL-90 Elite, one DVL-91 Elite, and four DVL-909s. I also currently have a CLD-59 Elite from a friend, but that will be moving on soon. Good thing I gave away all the non-Pioneers, or it'd be awfully crowded here. je |

I recently picked up a Pioneer DVL 700. One of the first LD/CD/DVD players from 1999...?
I the orig owner paid over $1000 for it! ~ He included the reciept. I love it so far as a CD mostly. I did just pick up a two disc "Once Upon a Time in the West" So, we'll see about the changing disc's. |

I would think space in the rack would prevent most from going this route. Mine play both sides, but it's not a big deal for me to pop in disc 2. Unlike a DVD, there aren't menus and previews to wade through.

I have a Pioneer LD player (free from an estate) and have a dumb question.
'scuse my ignorance. I have it connected to my TV front panel via the composite cables and am getting verticle contrast variations and "fuzz", (kind of like floaters in your eyes, if you know what I mean) during playback. Would I be better off using a digital connection instead? It can be very distracting trying to watch a movie when I notice the imperfections. Thanks! |

Have you tried multiple discs? Different video cables? Are you using a video cable, or audio cable for the composite video? I had a Pioneer LD player that would play the first few chapters fine, then glitch similar to what you describe only on the later chapters. Do you notice any pattern like that? je |

Hello-
It's a Pioneer CLD-S201. I am using standard red/white/yellow cables in the correct sequence. They are cheapies I had extra around the shop, but do work. Yes, I did notice that in the early chapters the playback was fine, then in the later chapters noticed the degraded picture quality. What was the fix? The very first Pioneer LD player I bought from a "divorce" sale crapped out on me. I was fortunate to come across this one for free as part of a vintage audio equipment purchase. The seller just wanted it gone. Since then I have purchased some rare movies, some no longer in print, some extra high quality. If I have to, I'll buy another player! Thanks for any suggestions. |
