Another - "What's the name of that movie?" thread

As the thread title explains, I'm trying to figure out the name of some long lost movie I saw 30 + years ago. Most of the time (given modern access to the internet and sites like IMDB) I can figure this sort of thing out on my own, but this one has eluded me for years... It's a movie that scared the crap out of me then, so I always seem to come back to it around Halloween.

Details:

A lead character (or characters) being pursued by some sort of cult. Could be Satanic, could be winos for all I can remember. I seem to recall the male lead looking a bit like Tom Skerritt (dark hair, mustache) but I doubt it actually was Skerritt. The cult members come from all walks of life, and are unexceptional but for one trait: A tattoo of a snake or dragon in the palm or on the back of their hands.

There's much angst, and running and driving madly about, until finally the baddies are defeated and the heroes get away... But wait! At the very end.. That friendly cop (some dude in a uniform anyway) is waving, oh no, is that a tattoo? *Freeze frame on tattoo while scary violin music plays*

That's all I remember... Help me Obi Wan!

Good candidate Russell, haven't seen that one; but I don't think Devil's Rain is it.

The mystery movie was broadcast on network TV when I saw it; and I'm relatively sure I was no older than 8 or 9. I did some reading at IMDB; and in '75 when Devil's Rain came out I was 10, and I don't think it would have been broadcast on TV (we didn't have cable at my house in those days) for at least a couple of years after it's theatrical release.

Now that I think about it, I wouldn't be a bit surprised to find that the mystery movie was made for TV fare, or even a TV show of some kind...

fotno, I remember it and I think you are right about where it might be from. The ABC Movie of the Week was the likely source I'd bet -

ABC MOTW WIKI & Filmography

Looking through some of the titles I am frankly amazed there isn't a regular release of some of them.

(I had to buy The Challenge (Darren McGavin) as a low-quality bootleg DVD ripped from VHS off an ancient TBS broadcast.)

Maybe... I've not seen Race With The Devil; and it could be the flick. I'll have to see if I can find a copy of it.
