Slightly OT: Mitsu HS-U77 timing

I know this isn't quite the right place, but it's the closest we have While doing a belt replacement on a Mitsubishi HS-U77 SVHS VCR, the timing on the gears slipped somehow. Anyone have some good directions for getting the gears all back in sync? I've tried and tried and tried and used what I thought were the sync marks on the gears, but no dice any way shape form or fashion. Help!
