You beat me to it. I was going to say, low B+, due to bad 'lytics. It's a low B+, half wave rectifier power supply.

I Remember these sets very well, i have serviced a lot of them in the 70's & early 80's when i was working in various TV shops. it seemed like these were very popular sets in their time. i am amaised that as cheap as the design was, these sets did not take much to fix them & they lasted a long time between repairs. even then, the repairs consisted of mainly changing the Horizontal Output Tube & the Tuner tubes.(those were usually the first tubes to go bad in the set.
in regards to the horizontal width problem, you should go & change that H.O. Tube. you just might find that replacing that might take care of the vertical linearity problems as the vertical output circuit relies on the B Boost supply. |
