There is something about the cabinet styling of that set that reminds me of 90's plastic table fans....

That wave and small picture is most likely a bad filter cap ! so check them before they blow ! ! !
You beat me to it. I was going to say, low B+, due to bad 'lytics. It's a low B+, half wave rectifier power supply.

Yeah, it's not the most exciting design, but it is in great shape for being 50 years old. I'm curious to see how that plastic cleans up. I bet it would look better bright white.

Ah-ha, I thought so because I could only find one diode. I'll recap it once I get a schematic.

I Remember these sets very well, i have serviced a lot of them in the 70's & early 80's when i was working in various TV shops. it seemed like these were very popular sets in their time. i am amaised that as cheap as the design was, these sets did not take much to fix them & they lasted a long time between repairs. even then, the repairs consisted of mainly changing the Horizontal Output Tube & the Tuner tubes.(those were usually the first tubes to go bad in the set.

in regards to the horizontal width problem, you should go & change that H.O. Tube. you just might find that replacing that might take care of the vertical linearity problems as the vertical output circuit relies on the B Boost supply.
