Mighty strange design. I'm guessing that 25Z6s must have been basically free as war surplus. But even then, the cost of the sockets and all the labor cost to wire things up wouldn't make sense. All those electrolytic caps had to be expensive. And to top it all off, even though there is a power transformer, it is an autotransformer, making the set a hot chassis set! Seems really odd to use a step-up autotransformer, but still use a voltage multiplier. Why not put a few more turns on the transformer secondary?

As pointed out above, Emerson didn't use this arrangement on all these sets. Another version with far fewer parts and lots of empty holes in the chassis is more commonly found.
