The Ebay set looks like it has all RCA knobs; I bet the Craigslist TV has the correct ones. That set also appears to have Channel 1. Nice find!

There are a couple different versions (at least) 571A and a 571B.
I have one of each, one has RCA knobs one has Emerson, I've seen others with RCA Knobs so I'm assuming they are original to that version at least.

There are also two different chassis, one uses five rectifier tubes in the PS and the other uses either Selenium or a 5U4, can't recall for sure.

I think I paid $25 for one and less than $100 for the other.
$1000 is insane, I wonder if it was a real sale or a Shill?

I wondered if this was a typo, so I looked up the Sams for Emerson 571, and sure enough -- five 25Z6GT rectifiers (with filaments in series cleverly adding up to 125 volts). Maybe they got a boatload of cheap 25Z6 tubes and wanted to use 'em up . . . ?

I used up teh ones in mine!

I hooked a filter in backwards and got some sparks, turned it around, it shorted and took out all five, brand new JAN tubes to boot.
Got it working but never did finish it up, I just got tired of messing with it after that.

the other one has the normal power supply and a much nicer cabinet, maybe I'll restore it now that they're worth a grand! :scratch2:

Perhaps there's some mystical purpose behind this design that I'm missing. Five rectifier tubes, eight 80-mfd capacitors . . . I keep expecting some guy to leap up and yell, "But wait -- there's more!!"

Interesting discussion. I drove out yesterday and picked up the set. It's in very good condition. The cabinet has only very minor scratches. I'm really tempted to just leave it as is. The CRT tested to about 3.8 on my BK which is as good as I expected and it was going up as it warmed up. I didn't notice it at first but yes it does have the channel 1. Most of the knobs are Emerson. I'm not sure about the channel selector. It doesn't seat completely as you can see in the picture. I'm not ready to pull the chassis out yet but I did get one shot with the back off. The back is complete and in good shape too. Well worth the trip. I'll add more photos next week. Opps, I see I can only add 6 pics here. I'll add one more on the next post.

I've often wondered about that myself.
Since eBay now makes the bidders names anonymous to all except the seller,there's really no way to know if they are using the same account over and over to bid things up.

Sometimes it backfires and they win the item back,then it gets relisted again.

Mighty strange design. I'm guessing that 25Z6s must have been basically free as war surplus. But even then, the cost of the sockets and all the labor cost to wire things up wouldn't make sense. All those electrolytic caps had to be expensive. And to top it all off, even though there is a power transformer, it is an autotransformer, making the set a hot chassis set! Seems really odd to use a step-up autotransformer, but still use a voltage multiplier. Why not put a few more turns on the transformer secondary?

As pointed out above, Emerson didn't use this arrangement on all these sets. Another version with far fewer parts and lots of empty holes in the chassis is more commonly found.

Great buy! you got the "A" version, the one with the "Fun" power supply.
My "A" has RCA knobs so perhaps they are incorrect.

That channel selector is an Emerson but for a different set, probably the 7" model.
