Console TVs from the future: in Star Trek

In the pilot episode of Star Trek, they show that the captain has a console TV set in his cabin.

Not much detail visible here, as they used strange lighting in this picture.

Even in the future, you still have power cords on the floor...

Looks like the source doesn't allow direct linking, so I uploaded it myself, but I kept the attribution in the lower right corner to keep it "fair use".

Glad to see that Captain Pike insisted on a real CRT!

I wasn't able to see the image inline in your post. I had to go to the link:

John

PS It would show up the instant I posted this!

I wonder if he had a hard time finding parts...

And the communicator from the Star Trek pilot episode used sub-miniature tubes.

The future was so much better in the past...

It would have been cool if they actually made those communicators into little radios or something, but they don't look like they do anything to me. (I don't see a single capacitor (variable or otherwise) anywhere in there, and there seem to be no wires at all going to that switch.

Found a better shot of the captain's console TV

There must be a remote, as I don't see any controls on the set itself.

They could have used a Koba Comet console instead...

Submini tubes - 2

Case w/ flipcover that covers nothing - 1
Rotary switch wafer w/out switch contacts - 1

Our tiny brains can't grasp its advanced design, which has been freed of mundane constraints such as a power supply or visible connections between components.

A sufficiently advanced science will appear as magic to the uninitiated!

Signing off for good, now. All future communications will take the form of Communicator Band wave-particles
