My bride and I just got back from seeing Gran Torino. We loved it! The supporting acting wasn't as strong as I had anticipated, but it wasn't too distracting. Clint was as rough, gruff, and tough as I had hoped. The movie didn't drone and was well paced and I really enjoyed the story. I recommend seeing it if you have any interest in going.
I do have a rant, though. Please turn off your frickin' cell phones- or better yet, learn how to turn them off! There were two folks sitting directly in front of us who couldn't seem to figure out how to turn off their cell phone even after two incoming calls. Somebody kept calling these seniors and they just let their phone ring, and ring, and ring. Several of us asked them politely to turn the phone off but they looked at us like we were speaking a foreign language. Maybe they didn't understand English? I was waiting for ol' Walt to start growling from the silverscreen, point that M-1 straight at the lady and snarl, "Turn the damned thing off, Grandma!" Seriously, if you don't know how to use the damned things, keep 'em in the car and out of the theater. It's very impolite to allow your phone to ring while others who paid good money are trying to enjoy their movie. Okay, I'm done complaining. As you were. |

Funny though... during the whole time, Clint's character reminded me of one of my favorite AK members.

There was a guy in the theater that we were at that got a call just before the movie started.
He pretty much yelled at the person that called him saying. "I'm at a movie, I'll f*#king call you back later!" and proceeded to hang up the phone. ![]() Scott

you have to face facts clint is getting old and his days of tough guy roles are coming to an end. a guy pushin 80 taking on street gangs is just not as believable now as it was in the 70`s. clint has taken enough of my money over the years, its time for someone/something different.

Exactly! Toughness can also be a state of mind.

This is probably the biggest reason why I stopped going to theaters. The arrogant and inconsiderate few that ruin it for others. Cell phone users are the worst. |

From my perspective, the gang plays a pretty secondary role in this film, despite the movie trailers focus on it. The exploration of his personal relationships are the core of this movie. dew. |

It was very believeable that Clint could beat up the one short gang guy he beat up. Size difference was considerable, and Clint still looks to be in very good condition. There are many fans out there that would disagree with you on the last statement - I likely won't miss any of what is left as there are not likely many movies left from Clint, one of my favorite all time actors.

I want to see Gran Torino because I'm originally from Detroit and think highly of Clint Eastwood. But I live in San Francisco and my girlfriend wants to see Milk. Maybe she'll settle for a DVD of "Fast times at Ridgemont High" and we can then go see Clint in a theater.

Hi all,
Mr. Clint Eastwood has always been one of my favorite Film Stars. I look forward to seeing his latest movie. Years ago, I was an "Extra" in the movie BIRD which Mr. Eastwood directed. After shooting a long scene, we broke for lunch. I'll never forget Mr. Eastwood sitting down at the table I was sitting along with the other EXTRAS and ate LUNCH with us! I'll also never forget Mr. Eastwood as he sat there and looked at me (for a long time) as if he knew me. I don't recall saying anything but perhaps hello. One HELL of a nice guy Mr. Eastwood! Heck, I'll even admit to liking BRONCO BILLY! Regards, SixCats! |
