Ahhh, the hate is strong here.

I own all 3 available seasons of Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea. Hopefully, Fox will release the 4th and final season of VTTBOTS next year. Richard Basehart and David Hedison were tremendous in their respective roles of Nelson and Crane.

Voyage's entire first season is available for viewing in 480p at Hulu.com

Check out "Submarine Sunk Here", "The Fear Makers" "Doomsday", "Mists of Silence" "The Price of Doom" and "The Sky is Falling". Pretty decent episodes - and not nearly as campy as the latter seasons

And the SSRN Seaview is probably one of, if not the, most beautiful fictional vessels ever filmed. And the Flying Sub too, is incredible.

Star Trek Remastered

I know this goes a bit beyond the thread, but I just got the first season of the original Star Trek on the remastered DVD/HD-DVD format, and all I can say is "DAMN!!". I don't have an HD-DVD player so I play the standard side on my upconverting Sony player, and it looks and sounds unbelieveable, especially the new CGI. I am now turning my 12 year old onto the show and he is not yet rolling his eyes.

But, even as a kid, I couldn't get passed the dude in a carrot suit on LIS. Anyone remember that??

I'd like to watch these shows again, though. It gives me a little perspective as to why did I like them. Being a kid and into sci-fi, these shows were the de facto vehicles to satisfy my love of the genre.

Even Star Trek, which is still alive and well, had some goofy stuff. But, I still watch every morning.

I do not see any of Allens shows on anywhere...Or am I missing something?

OK, I read the original post again. I don't know if I have American Lifetime Network. Is it on DirecTV, or...?
Piece of trivia about that particular episode. Mrs. Robinson and Judy (the elder daughter) were written out of that episode... because they couldn't keep from laughing at the costume!

EDIT: And why was the monster alien carrot spraying his big carrot-y body with a mister towards the beginning of that episode, yet its (his?) life was saved at the end by being handed a glass of water which he/it drank in the traditional way??

Gee, thanks. My last salvageable attempt to experience real life has been scuttled ;-)

Watching now...

Lost in Space used to be one of my favorites, I remember in the summers of '86 and '87 and '88 watching it on my 16" b/w Zenith every weekday morning at 10AM on ch36. I only got to watch it when there was no school because of the time it was on, and the next summer they stopped showing it. A couple of years ago I got some of it on dvd and saw it again for the first time in 18 years, and while I will admit it wasn't as cool as I remember it, I still like watching it, particularly if I put some of the color episodes up on an early color set.

A few years back, there was a movie version of Lost In Space made... I saw previews of it and thought "They really screwed it up, they spent money on special effects! That misses the whole experience of the show.

For me, the most memorable LIS was where Dr Smith gets banished to this derelict alien ship & he finds this helmet doohickey that can conjure up ANYTHING he wants...Which he does unending til the OWNER of said doohickey shows up & is a bit torqued about the situation. Remember him ? White, pasty feller, looked like he was covered in ceiling spackle, dressed in a black velour turtleneck...All he could do was go "ERRRRRRRRRRRRRrrrrrrrrRRRRRRR !!!" & hold out his outstretched hands at Dr Smith, but to my 8 yr old 1965 eyes, he/it was a uber-frightening, blood-blanching MONSTER. Smith gave the magic helmet back, all the goodies went away, & Will got an apple out of the deal. But THAT was the scariest one to me. It was on just a couple of weeks back, & it STILL sent chills...Funny how that stupit old $1.98 show can still do that...

You might like this site......in-depth info/history of the "Seaview" studio miniatures and full size sets.

If you click on "16 foot model"......you'll see that the original studio model sits in some guys backyard! Also....clicking on "INDEX" will acess you to history/info on ALL Irwin Allen productions and where the props & models are today. Interesting stuff for fans.
