Been Watching Irwin Allen Stuff...
 

...On Thursday nights on American Lifetime Network. Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, Time Tunnel, Land of the Giants, & of course, Lost in Space. There was a reason Irwin's programs only lasted a year or 2, 3 at most: They STUNK !! This from a life long Lost In Space fan. "Time Tunnel", which could have been pretty interesting, was arguably the silliest of the bunch. Irwin must have had a standing order for his writers-When in doubt, have the characters fight. If you need to burn up time, have the characters fight. Since Irwin used more or less the same production team on all his shows, you can see pretty much the same show played thru all 4 series. We thought they were such Hot Shit whenever we were kids, & were dismayed when they got cancelled, but now, as a 50 yr old, they're so feckin' DUMB as to be almost unwatchable. No Sandy, you're right on the money, his stuff is crap, even the disaster movies
are good for nothing but camp value today.

Lost In Space was a childhood favorite of mine but now? The first season was OK but season two is almost unwatchable, space pirates, space pirates and more space pirates. :thumbsdn:

There were always lots of sparks flying on his shows, ship gets hit by something, sparks fly out all over the place from all the electrical gear, but wonders of wonders it still works later!! :D

I always watched all those shows as a kid, but agree, usually after the first season the writing got really bad with really wacky looking monsters and bad special effects.

Dr. Smith ruined every scene he was in on Lost in Space with that inane dialogue.

I liked these shows when I was a kid.
But, even as a kid, I couldn't get passed the dude in a carrot suit on LIS. Anyone remember that??

I'd like to watch these shows again, though. It gives me a little perspective as to why did I like them. Being a kid and into sci-fi, these shows were the de facto vehicles to satisfy my love of the genre.

Even Star Trek, which is still alive and well, had some goofy stuff. But, I still watch every morning.

I do not see any of Allens shows on anywhere...Or am I missing something?

OK, I read the original post again. I don't know if I have American Lifetime Network. Is it on DirecTV, or...?

He still creeps me out.

Towering Inferno fascinated me as a kid. If I saw it again today I'm sure I would have a different opinion. It's been years since I've seen that movie.

I enjoyed them all as a kid and I still enjoy them now.
I always thought Dr. Smiths "inane' dialogue made the show.

Oh come on, you can't even imagine what the world will be like in the future. 1978 my be exactly like this, we will have to wait and see.

I also have fond memories of these shows and would seldom miss any of them when they first ran. They just don't hold up well over time.

I know there are fans of Dr. Smith. I just never liked his character and in the later episodes of Lost in Space it seemed like he was in every scene.

I did not even like Lost in Space when I was a kid! Especially when they started having hippies on during the latter 60's!

Oh, the Control-Panel-Blowing-Up was another fave of Irwin's...And I always wondered what the purpose of the 1956 21" TV screen that ALWAYS was showing Lissajous figures was ? I LIKED Dr. Smith...But I wished that ONCE, just ONCE, Maj. West had just hauled off & cold-cocked him one...Hehehehe..

I've worked at places where the equipment was built by the same people who built the Seaview....BOOM.

Just blow some CO2 in it's general direction and everything will be fine.

Torpedo blows a hole in the submarine, asteroid blows a hold in the space ship. There's always a valve to close to fix it.
