I don't recall if it was post apocalypse or just post the-oil-ran-out, but there was one back in the early 80's called "The Last Chase" with Lee Majors and Chris Makepeace (Rudy from Meatballs). Living in a totalitarian state where there is no oil, Majors, a former racecar driver, takes his car across country to California, a free state. He stops and siphons the dregs out of old gas station tanks to make it. I recall it being really hokey but entertaining.

For another hokey but fun romp through a post apocalyptic world, how about Judge Dredd?

And I guess technically, The Matrix trilogy was post apocalyptic too.

The Last Chase was not about running out of oil. The Totalitarian state did away with cars, and Public Mass Transit was put in place. This was after a plague (it was speculated that it was the swine flu) wiped a good portion of the population.

Ah cool, someone else has seen it. Thanks for the clarification. I haven't seen it since it hit cable back in the 80's. Just remembered the car being chased by a jet (?) through a wasteland.

Six String Samurai and The Day Of The Triffids

As far as my favorites, most were already mentioned; but, I especially enjoyed the plotline behind 12 Monkeys, Logan's Run, and The Omega Man.

And, IMHO, some of the best were The Terminator Trilogy.

I liked the movie until I read the book this summer. It really should have a different title as that is the only thing in common other than hostile plants. To put this in context, the original title was "Revolt of the Triffids". Why revolt? They were being farmed & crushed for their oil content! Puts a little different spin on things, yes? I kept thinking "28 Days Later" as I read the book as that is the feel to it. A truly great read and unlike many sci-fi books from the the 50's, it reads like a contemporary work. It is well worth hunting down if you enjoy this genre. The characters are well developed, average people caught up in a situation they clearly are not prepared for; sentient plant life with organization skills. I truly wish Wyndham had written the follow-up to it.

In fact Lee Major's was a spokesman for the Transportation Ministry. He went around giving lectures on the merits of the "state" run system.

Yeah it was Burgess Meredith flying an F-86 Sabre Jet.
