admiral portable on ebay

Im bidding on this, as this is the sets I like! Small tube type color portables. This one looks to be around 1971 or so? Anyone have any thoughts?

I like the set but $125.00 ???!!!???? (so far). It will be interesting to see what it closes for. I am glad that the people here on AK and the collectors on eBay are interested and saving these sets. If I had the room and money I would be doing the same thing.....

guess i will stick to curbshopping for sets.
20 years ago we curbshopped on bulk day and rebuilt what we found to sell.
looks like all we need to do now is list on ebay
ps hamfests are a good source for vintage sets.
$5 for a clean portacolor that works good
a free gr-2000.dead and busted crt
a free gr-227 that just needs a few lytics.works but you get seasick watching it.
a bunch of free sony and jvc small studio monitors .
oops dont let the ebay flippers hear this...

I know him too. I bid against him on a portacolor a while back. His name is robert bilbao? I think thats his name. Weve been chatting through email on color sets for a while. He hasnt become ak member yet, even though I told him.

I just spoke with the seller, this set is like brand new cosmetically. I dont have any sets like this, so I must bid on it! No matter what, I must have a small admiral portable if it cost me $200!!! no I dont have lots of money to burn, im obsessed with tvs (and cars)! Tvs are just easier to bring home!

Grump, thats a cool admiral..........like all of us, we probably have so many b/w sets that we want to get rid of! Make more room for color!

Well looks like you got it! When you have to get something that bad, Esnipe is the way to go. Let us know how the set works and post some pics.

For sure. Unfortunatly someone else wanted it bad too, so I had to pay big $. Most of you guys are probably thinking "junk" I want an admiral set from the early 70s era so this is what it took for me to get it!

picture is bad! No picture! He sold me a toasted peice of junk. I admit, I took way too much of a risk and a very over priced one. Im currently trouble shooting it. The set works great if I use the horizontal plate signal (set has no HV). The fly is good. Picture is out of sync when it lights up. This is a bad japanese set and uses oddball tubes that I have noplace! Has a 30JZ6 H out, Id like to sub it, but dont have one, a 17Y9 sync tube and a 9WP4 (or something) horizontal osc. Tubes tested good. Seems like Ive got B+ at the h out. The fly starts to ring when I hook the plate cap on the 30JZ6, but no HV. Like I say, it works when I sub the plate voltage with my analyst. I have no schematic so Im kinda stuck here. Any thoughts?
