Texas Recycles Day 2006

This has been my 4th year collecting TV's at Texas Recycles Day and there was a lot less old TV's brought in. I salvaged speakers and chassis from some of the modern sets but 90% of the sets were late 90's and early 2000's RCA's and Philips Magnavox, etc.
I only got 5 TV's, a mid 1970's RCA XL-100 17" inline set (RCA's first inline)
a 1983 Zenith Motel TV w/ radio, a GE tube type b/w hybrid with IC's and tubes, a Zenith Digital System 3 console and a RCA CTC-169 console (works well). There were a few more mini-TV's and TV boomboxes though that I got.
Got a Dumont console tube type radio/phono plus some CB's and Stereo receivers.
Every year tube type sets have gotten rarer and rarer. Just 1 tube TV and 1 tube console stereo this year. I'll have some pictures when I download the shop camera.

Chad,

How was the weather this year? I remember one of the recycle days it was pretty miserable.

Oh I remember those times. The TV's were soaked and had to dry out several days.
This time weather was pleasant....just got one van-load of stuff. We had the truck and the van both in action w/ 2 truckloads and 1 van load last year. Just not as good of stuff this year. I guess its good in a way there wasn't too much as I am running low on space! Not quite as exciting as other times though.

I went to your website and noticed that I have exactly the same early Sears color portable TV that you have. After replacing some tubes and a resistor, mine works fairly well. I need to do a little work on the convergance, and it would be working very well.

As you are in Texas, do you ever attend any of the antique radio conventions such as the VRPS (Vintage Radio and Phono Society) convention in Dallas or the HVRA (Houston Vintage Radio Association) convention? These are good locations to pick up parts, ideas, etc.
