That MAY be a solid state CTC-40. SURE LOOKS LIKE ONE!!! If not, it's a CTC-39; the very last tube console chassis. Anyone interested should ask the seller what it says on the front panel; If CTC-40, it will be Trans Vista Color or New Vista Color Solid State. If CTC-39, it will be New Vista Color.

Looks like no hardware is holding the back cover on. Its just hanging on there. I just emailed the seller for a model. Is it me or does it look like it might say "RCA VICTOR" with the logos in the lower right corner of the set? If its a victor, than its probably a 39. I think the transvista color (ctc40) had the tilt out control bin too.

I don't think CTC-39's used the offset tuning dial like this one does...the 39's usually have either a pull out control bin including the speaker or a thin strip of controls on a pull out. Also the CTC-39 did not use the offset tuning dial as far as I know...
Also I don't think the 39's used the "Victor" nomenclature, they were all the block letter RCA logo. The CTC-38's were made with both the older style Victor CRT bezel and the more modern style with the pull out control bin.

I know that the very last of the "deluxe" model tube type chassis (like CTC-17, 25 etc) did use the offset tuning dial into the crt mask. I think the last tube type deluxe chassis may be the ctc-35.

Y'know what turns me off to that entire generation of sets? Something that did way back in the day and still does to this day--that plastic bezel makes it look like a table set sitting in a random cabinet. I always thought that looked stupid. OTOH some of the downright fugliest sixties consoles were the ones with controls located much too conspicuously over the right-hand section of grill cloth.

It looks like the CTC-46? that I had that an AK member got from me. When I saw the set at the estate sale I thought for sure it was a CTC-40 (had the tilt out panel & said Trans Vista) was surprised it was a 46. This one has the SAME cabinet style as well.

Isn't the 46 basically the same chassis as the 40, except the 46 uses a HV quadrupler/tripler instead of the tube rectifier of the 40? These were both non-modular transistor sets.

yup. The set I got was beautiful. Never did find out if the Aker who came and got it, got it repaired. He said 46's were pretty rare. Mine had what looked like a bad picture tube, but the tube checked fine. I think it had some screen voltage issues as it would go green and would arc, You could see the HV interference in the picture.

Earlier -40s did not use the tilt-out panel and used the old logo.

Not the 46, but the 44 and 47 (47 was exclusive to the model G-2000) had the similar flat-on-bottom-of cabinet chassis. The CTC-46 was the first modular upright XL-100 chassis.

Here you go:

Model GJ749F, the "Dumas". CTC-28A chassis, 1967. We were all way off on this one!

I think I was close!! The ctc-28 is one of the deluxe tube type chassis like the ctc-17, 25 etc,
OK maybe I didn't definintively say it but I had a feeling it might be. The cheaper tube chassis like ctc-31 and 38, 39 usually did not have the offset tuning dial.
