Mooo ha ha ha. No seriously, DOGS are otherwise known as a digitally originated graphics.

Since events like 9/11, it has become fashionable for programmers to place the annoying meaningless scrolling text, and more often than not a bright colorful logo on the corners of their programming. The hazard is obvious: nasty screen burns on a CRT (both projector and direct view) and plasma displays.

The big thing is that it is getting harder to watch primetime tv without a static logo in the corner.

My cat loves the scrolling text though: she chases the CNN logos that they insert between topics on the scroll.

The logos known as "bugs"? Yeah, they're annoying. To me they're a constant reminder that the major television networks think I'm too stupid to remember what channel I'm watching. Good thing I don't look at much TV, then.

The scrolling text is particularly insulting as well. Why? Let's use Good Morning America as an example. They'll put the scroll on the bottom, with today's headlines. Since there's some food segment, or a celebrity interview, or a happy puppy or kitty story coming out of Diane Sawyer's yap instead of REAL news, the real news is diminished and trivialized and condensed into a six-word headline. The world could be ending, and it'd be scrolling across the bottom of my screen (don't blink! and you gotta take it away during commercials, of course!), but I'll hear endless crystal-clear useless crap about Jennifer Anuston out of the talking heads' mouths!

I have been pee'd off at this for some time.

Can someone not make a electronic box that goes between the cable and TV connection that filters out the frenquency of this damn thing? I do not know if its even possible but I bet if someone invented one one they would be millionaire over night.

I though of always doing this but have no electronics expertise at all.

Hate them. Dont know how to get rid of them. It really stinks to record a movie you've been looking for for years, only to have that thing in the corner identifying the source as the "Subtitled Movie channel" or some silly thing.

Ovenmaster: Your post reminds me of an old George Carlin skit:

I suppose we could insert our own opaque graphics over the top of their stuff. A big black spot can't be any worse.

How many of us have been called to a customers house to check out a "shadow" in the picture, only to arrive to see the guys 65 inch HDTV rear projection TV has been on Fox news for the last 12 hours, just like every other day for the last year, and the "shadow" is actually the Fox logo and the scrolling text at the bottom that has burned into the CRTs. I even had an RCA dealer call me for the same problem, and it was CNN. All day, every day the set on display was on CNN. When I told him RCA wouldn't pay to fix it, he was "disappointed".

I used to see a lot of direct view sets with QVC burned into the screen. Still do occasionally.

thats actually amusing to me for some reason. Im surprised my monitor doesnt have "AudioKarma.org Discussion Forums" burned into the top of the screen yet. I lurk here a LOT.

Sometimes I find sets with VIDEO burned into the corner... Once I found a set with faintly burned area over all but the edges of the screen - just about the displayable text area of a Commodore 64...

Haven't seen a set with a logo burned into it except at restaurants where they have sets playing the news or ESPN all the time.

Still, those things are really annoying.

There was a weather service heat advisory for most of this area a couple days this week. One station had a constant crawl & a big blurb up in the left top corner showing a map of the counties-this ran steady for a day or 2, all through everything. I think they even did it through the commercials. Then they do it through the local news and the blurb up in the corner is right on top of the anchors face. Enough already-it's hot outside, I get it!

I've long detested the bugs myself. However, they've starting going even further with animated logos advertising new shows, complete with sound effects, over the top of regular programming. While these may never cause burn in your screen, they certainly are annoying. I mean, so sorry they have to interrupt their ads with programming once in a while...

The used monitor I am on right now has screen burns, where the original display existed. Drove me nuts at first, thought my video card had a problem, but this monitor shows a brighter band around the outer 1/4 inch of screen.

Proved it with a monitor test program.
