Saw Superman Returns Today

A few of my friends had told me that the new Superman wasnt really an action movie,but a love story.
After having seen it this morning,Id have to say I really,really liked it.It was obviously made in the same style as the Superman flicks of the 70's and 80's.My first clue was when they used John Williams orignal theme in the credits,along with the same style titles.
And my friends were right,but now that I think about it,the old Superman films werent strict actioners either.
Everyone keeps mentioning that Routh isnt as good as Reeves was,but I thought he did a good job.The slight dissapointment for me was Lois Lane.Kate Bosworth is a good actress,and much more beautiful,but I just thought she wasnt right for the part.She doesnt have that offbeat,comedic quality that Margot Kidder had.
A fun film.I really enjoyed it.

What ever happened to Truth Justice and the American way, now its just truth justice and all that stuff. I saw that in a news story. I don't have first hand knowledge that it was changed. If it was changed I'd ask, why?. I won't be seeing it. CC

Its on my list of to see movies. I dont mind a little love story in a movie. I think I am gonna like it.

This is just my opinion,but I think that in the old Superman II(1981),espescially at the end when hes flying to the White House with the flag waving,this was supposed to be camp and over the top,which was the tone of those movies anyway.I think they were mocking that kind of patriotism,which wasnt in style during that time.
I think leaving the American Way part out this time is just a nod to the international market,which will probably generate at least twice the revenue of stateside.

i saw the movie and thought it was very good. a little too long but still good. the plane scene was cinema at it's best. parker posey is always entertaining...

I'm glad to hear they kept the opening titles as the original. I remember being blown away back in 1978 just by the title seqence alone! Seeing those blue words streaking into space on a big movie screen was cool as all hell...especially accompanied by John Williams score.

I'm looking forward to seeing Superman Returns but I'm gonna wait for the DVD. I still think Chris Reeve was the perfect Superman.

Rented and watched the DVD last night.What a complete dissapointment.No story line whatsoever.Just a lot of special effects spliced together....The 1978 Superman was by far the benchmark,IMO.The opening credits in a large theater took your breath away.This one tried to capture some of that feeling,but fell flat.

The only part that was great was Kevin Spacey as Lex Luther - otherwise the movie completely stunk. To me it really is a waste of celluloid.

Well I really liked it.

I thought Brandon Routh did a superb job of filling Chris Reeves shoes both as the bumbling Clark and as Superman.

The SFX were great and it was never dull, I also thought it was much less campy than the earlier films.

Major bonus points for the cameos by Noel Neill and Jack Larson from "The Adventures of Superman" show of the 1950's

Well, I saw it, and it did, indeed, stink. Long, drawn out, and didn't introduce a single thing new. If you wanted to see the first movie over again, you should watch the first movie over again. Kevin Spacey was, indeed, the highlight of the film for me.
