ANOTHER consolette RCA CTC-19 today!

We were just discussing these 19" mini-console RCA color sets a week or 2 ago, and I had commented that I had only ever seen one in the wood cabinet, in addition to the one that was posted about here. But Saturday morning, I got a call from Dr. Dan saying he had found one at a probate sale in Reseda, CA, and did I want it? I said SURE!, and he picked it up for me at $18. This one is a model GG-530, and has a CTC-19P in it. It's very clean, and looks pretty much virgin except for a brightener on it. This is definitely an early one, as it has the pot metal knobs and not the plastic ones. I haven't fired it up yet, since it's midnight and I'm pooped. I might see what it does tomorrow, and I will check the tube and see how bad it is with that brightener. Hopefully, a TV repairman had an extra brightener to sell, and the tube might be OK without it. Seen that many times.

UPDATE: It works! I removed the brightener, checked the CRT on my B&K 470 and it tested good-to-very-good! So I variac'ed it up over about a half hour, cans stayed cold, and I started hearing the horizontal osciallator at about 90v on the Variac

High Voltage crackled to life, and I got a nice raster. So I hooked it to cable, and here came a decent picture. I had to spray the tuner (YES, I know that's the wrong way), and it seems quite good. May have a few bad caps in the IF circuit, or maybe a weak tube in the front end. Has a beat pattern that you can't get rid of without getting rid of the color too. Also has a focus problem, hopefully a faulty 2AV2. This is a low-hour set, I think, because the tube diagram is still in good shape and they usually get brown & brittle with heat of usage.

Anway, I stuffed in a hole in the livingroom...

Thanks for the compliments! I was pleasantly surprised, as I figured it would have all kinds of problems from sitting unused for so long... Eventually I will only keep one. I got that metal table model from Eric about a month ago, and frankly I like it better as a keeper due to size. I'll play with both of them for awhile, then this one might show up in the AK classified unless Dr. Dan wants it back.
