"Heat" (1995)

Hey guys, do look up this cops & robbers/bank heist thriller starring Al Pacino & Robert de Niro.

It is worth your time & trouble!

A Michael Mann film. Pretty good, and a top flight cast, but the ending wrecks the film. De Niro's pro thief, who spends the whole film talking about how you have to be able to just walk away from anything without a qualm (even aborts a job in mid-heist because he suddenly suspects Pacino and the cops are hip), instead of just disappearing into the night, returns to an obvious trap just to gun down the rat-snitch, c'mon. Completely out of character, but you "have to have" the Hollywood-style final bonding scene between the two "old pros," Pacino and De Niro. I suggest you check out an earlier effort "Thief" with James Caan. Maybe Mann's masterpiece.

I agree the ending was no good, too moralistic or something, I liked the deniro character more than anyone else in the film. The bank heist was excellent though, good flick.

Of the two, I liked "Thief" slightly better.... but they are high up on my list of favorites...

There was another DeNiro heist flick set in Canada, "The Score" (2001) that I also liked... He pops a safe using hydrostatic shock... a classic as far as I'm concerned...

heat was an excellent movie. loved the shoot out scene outside the bank. also the scene where deniro and pacino are talking in the bar is superb.

thief was very good from what i remember. been a very long time since i saw it. mostly remember it was the first time i heard tangerine dreams music.
