Oh why, oh why-oh - "Stick It"
Took my two daughters (13 and 10) to see "Stick It" about young female gymnasts. A pretty good movie with an interesting and plausible plot and some great cinematography. A sample great line, by one particularly bitchy girl "Well, we're not called 'gym-nice-ts'."
Jeff Bridges mugs a lot as the tough-but-tenderhearted coach but I gotta get a haircut like his and some of his wardrobe. However, why does it feature a completely gratitous gay (but cute and lovable) boy character? Otherwise, the film is NOT about teenage sex - the most overt sexual scene is the cute boy (in a dress) flirting with an older gay man. I've noticed this hidden message in several popular films - "Sweet Home Alabama" comes to mind. Now I'm a live-and-let-live guy but this continual propagandization in recent Hollywood offerings is getting irritating - especially when it is clearly aimed directly at MY children. This was supposed to be an uplifting sports film for young girls. |

Hollywood (bless them) are so insulated that they think they're being progressive and LEADING the rest of us kicking and screaming into the future, when In actuality, they mostly follow meekly behind, a dull reflection of whats really going on in the world around them.

really you think that sort of thing would piss off the gay comunity... i mean it cant be good for there cause if they are perceved as a bunch of flamboyent dips... i am prity sure most gay people are not like that... i know a gay guy (im sure there is a more politicly correct way to say it... but i dont know it) and i wouldn't know he was gay if someone didnt tell me. he dosnt act any differnt or speak with a lisp or anything (he also has a very very nice stareo some maggies 3.6 brysten monoblocks and a merk levenson cdp/processer) idk, hollywood makes me mad most of the time

I am pretty tollerant too but here in germany noone really cares if one is gay or not BUT they seem to make it "special" to be gay. Hollywood demonstrates that it is ok to be gay, but what about us straight guys? Why dont they make a film where they celebrate the straight guys?
Like always they pick what brings more money, and a bunch of "man attracted to man" is the ticket to make a statement and to get more crititcs to write something which then returns in more talk and money for the movie. Well, thats my strangely and weird opinion which i couldnt translate any better in my head :-) --Greetings from a bavarian forest Flo |

Stick It, rated PG-13
From the MPAA: "PG-13 is thus a sterner warning to parents, particularly when deciding which movies are not suitable for younger children. Parents, by the rating, are alerted to be very careful about the attendance of their under-teenage children. A PG-13 film is one which, in the view of the Rating Board, leaps beyond the boundaries of the PG rating in theme, violence, nudity, sensuality, language, or other contents, but does not quite fit within the restricted R category. Any drug use content will initially require at least a PG-13 rating. In effect, the PG-13 cautions parents with more stringency than usual to give special attention to this film before they allow their 12-year-olds and younger to attend. If nudity is sexually oriented, the film will generally not be found in the PG-13 category. If violence is too rough or persistent, the film goes into the R (restricted) rating. A film’s single use of one of the harsher sexually derived words, though only as an expletive, shall initially require the Rating Board to issue that film at least a PG-13 rating. More than one such expletive must lead the Rating Board to issue a film an R rating, as must even one of these words used in a sexual context. These films can be rated less severely, however, if by a special vote, the Rating Board feels that a lesser rating would more responsibly reflect the opinion of American parents." You can't say they didn't warn you. |

I'm not complaining about the rating, which I thought was above and beyond necessity here, I'm complaining about the hidden agendas and the forced subplots and unbelievable characters to support that agenda.
That serves neither the needs of the public nor the artistic integrity of the work. |

They do the same thing with television. I have seen over and over a good family oriented show run for 3 or 4 years AS a family oriented show, then someone starts adding things like gay characters. They usually do it gently and with little fanfare. I think it is done purposefully to push an agenda. Get everyone hooked on a great show, then bring in the less popular stuff, slowly so as not to make waves. In the long run it's a pretty effective strategy, as many people will never realize they and especially their children are being indoctrinated. Kinda' like the frog in the pan of water on the stove. Just my 2 cents...

Let's avoid conspiracy theories, politics and religion. It's beginning to get the foul smell of that in here.

This is a film review posted in the "Movies and Television" category and I'm critical of the film and the organization that produced it.
I didn't ask that movies about teenage sports get injected with liberal sexual agendas and I wasn't warned. That is legitimate film and film industry criticism from a man who just shelled out $30. |

Yeah, but some of you obviously have your own agendas that you keep injecting into your posts. Keep 'em to yourself.

Hey- this thread is probably skating the edge of political content. Just a reminder to myself as much as the rest of you. I kinda crossed the line yesterday on a different thread.
Celt is right- the only agenda I see in this thread is coming from the folks posting the messages. Ed
