Neat little red Quasar with rare remote on eBay

This little 9" late 80s Quasar color set showed up on eBay, and it looks really nice. The TV is certainly no collectible (yet), but it has the really neat remote that is a tiny copy of the TV. I worked on a few of those, but that remote handunit is quite rare. Only ever saw one or two of the remotes, although I probably have seen dozens and dozens of the TVs.

I had an '85 White version of that set which my grandmother gave me . The remote was long gone though. It was a nice little tv, and she was going to throw it out cause it kept turning off. Turned out to be cold solder on the mainboard in the horizontal/HV section. I gave it back to her after the repair, but another relative got it after she passed a few years back. Wish I got to it first, Whats right is right after all.

Was the TV made by Motorola? If so, I would think it is a rarity worthy of being collectible, even if it was made in 1980. However, if this television is just plain Quasar, the chassis having been made offshore, then you're right--it isn't collectible...yet, anyhow, not for about another 25 years. I think the Quasar name was retained for a short time, even after Motorola went out of the television business.

I don't think I've ever seen a Motorola Quasar television as small as that one is. The remote itself is enough of a rarity as to be a collectible, even now. I've never seen a television remote before now that was made to look like a tiny replica of the set it controls. The thing is darn cute!

Nope... Panasonic. The CRT said Matsushita, and the tag said Made in Japan. FBT number is TLF-14401 (classic Panasonic #), if I recall.

I think the last Motorola-built set was in the 70s.
