Watched "King Kong"(2005) last night. - Videokarma.org TV - Video

I actually thought it was pretty good. Not nearly as bad as I'd expected. The key to my enjoyment of it was the fact that I felt sympathy for Kong.....just as I'd had for the original.

The 1933 film is still my fav. Kong movie, but this new one is a fantastic popcorn-muncher

I as well watched it last night. The special effects were great. I sure would love to have Kong on my side if I was ever on that island.
I really enjoyed it.

This movie was a special effects showcase thats for sure! How about that dinosaur stampede!!

The girl should of jumped off right after him...
That would of changed the movie.

As I was watching that scene, I thought for sure thats what she was gonna do. I agree with you, It would have made for an interesting ending. A real beauty and the beast.

Now that I know the ending, I'm gonna jump off that cliff...

No, it is a very very good film. The problem was that anyone can guess that none of us wanted to go to the cinema for a yet another 'King Kong' remake. (Grew up on them)

In the end this one very suprisingly does everything you could want in a 2006 theater experience and way more, and then you get the vintage/classic boost to boot.

Been done before, but never as well. -sf

Now I never captained any more than a 75-hp Evinrude on a 17-ft Crosby, but if I were in charge of a ship doing about ten knots in a fog bank heading toward a “wall” I’d of thrown the ship in reverse. Ya gotta love the 5.1 sound, but there are too many technical absurdities for my disposition. They should have cut the thing from its three hours into a two-hour ten-minute flick. Would ‘a been better IMO…

I just picked up the DVD yesterday and watched it last night and have to agree with most of what's been said so far. While it is certainly a technological tour de force and the best of the remakes, it could easily have been 30 minutes shorter without really losing anything. Still a great flick and Kong as a character was very believable.

I wasn't able to arrange for babysitting when the movie came out last fall. So, having not seen it, my question is this: Is this DVD one of those that you feel you need to own, or is it just a rental?

I'm vascilating between renting the DVD, vs. just buying it instead. If I really like this movie, I will almost certainly buy it, but I have heard mixed reports.

FWIW: I'm a big sci-fi nut, but I've never been real big on King kong per say. Although, if Peter Jackson brought some of that magic from TLOTR to this movie, then I may just simply buy this thing.

So, what's the vote here: Buy or Rent?

It was an entertaining movie and I enjoyed it. I bought it only because NetFlix has it listed as a very long wait and I wasnt willing to wait several more weeks to see it. Having said that I would rent it if I were you. Good movie but now one I would watch over and over again.

Well, we rented it last night, and it was VERY good. Peter Jackson certainly did not dissapoint with this one.

I thought that the all of the prelude story made the rest of the story a bit more believable. And the design of the island was really quite stunning, as were the rest of the special effects.

I've never seen CGI look quite so real before.

But the Kong story-line itself has never really captured my imagination. And it was a little too preditable (not just the Kong part, but the Movie Cliche's in general that were stongly present all over the place).

My wife and I sometimes play a game when we watch a movie where we know that a lot of people will get killed, and try to predict which characters we think will live at the beginning. King Kong was far too easy to predict in this regard. Only one single character who we thought for sure was toast, lived through the movie, and nobody who we thought would survive, died. That is just a little too predictable in my book, and is probably the movies greatest failing.

However, overall, I really enjoyed it, but I think that my wife liked it even more than I did (the chick-flick appeal, I think). She definitely wants it now, so I'm pretty sure that it will be on our shelf after her next trip to Costco no matter what I say.

Women like it for far different reasons than men do. I will leave it up to your interpretation as to why !
