1968 Philco 19" color tv

I picked up this Philco 19 " table model color tv the other day. It is model #18kt51b I believe. The chassis # is s5368wa. I found a 1968 date inside. The cabinet is all metal woodgrain with a carry handle but it weighs a ton. I do know the flyback is shot so it will need replaced and it has catteracts on the tube real bad. I got another chassis for parts that looks like the flyback is good. I am going to use it in this tv. Are there any other parts besides tubes that need replaced when the flyback burns out? I may be wasting my time but I just want to try my luck and see if I can get working. Has anyone on here worked on these tvs?

I would check out the horizontal oscillator circuit and replace the horiz. output and damper tubes...it may be that the flyback burned out due to an overload caused by a lack of horizontal drive signal.

The horizontal output tube was cracked when I opened it up so that may be what caused the flyback to burn out. I got it and several other tvs mostly Philco from a guy who used to sell and work on them. He has a bunch of nos tubes also. I have been buying some of them for $1 apiece. I am sure he had some high voltage tubes for this set. I will go back and look. Thanks for the advice Chad. I am new at this tv hobby but I have always been fasinated with the tube sets. I used to drag them home from the dump when I was a kid. I just liked to see what was in them.

Philco's don't turn up as often as many other makes-I would like to find one like yours. Just my opinion, but from what I've seen Philco was doing its best work on color sets about this time. I had a console that age & really wish I kept it. A good performer & something different from the typical RCA & Zenith products. I encourage you to bring this one back to life.

Make sure the high voltage rectifier is good. Shorted rectifier tubes are another cause of flyback failure.

I have plans to use this set in my upstairs bedroom. I usually sleep there in the summer. I went back where I got it and got all 3 high voltage tubes for it. Those dudes were expensive when new. The price on the horizontal output tube was $45.95! He is selling them to me for $1 apiece. He said he has some nos crts for Philco. If he has one to fit this set I may go ahead get it since the one in it has cateracts. I dont know how good it is anyway. He didnt state a price for them. I also got a 25" console with the same chassis as this set. It works but the picture and sound are snowy even with a vcr and the color is not very good either. To me that may be the tuner or could be a tube.

If you got a horizontal output for $1, that was a steal. 50 bucks is more like it nowdays. Nearly all of them are out of production.

Don. I dont know what or how many crts he has. I just asked him today about them. He said they are in another building along with some more tubes and other parts. If this building looks anything like his shop then they are probably buried in 20+ years accumulation of stuff. He said it has been 20 years since he has sold or worked on tvs. He has tons of motors tv parts old stereo equipment and other stuff. I noticed an nos 8 track deck on a shelf. I also saw a voice of music changer that also looked nos. I will check back with him later on it.
