We used to fix a lot of them! This particular one is from mid '77 and still works great.

I remember them, they were the one of the first on-screen channel displays (THE first?). My grandmother had a 19", which sat atop her massive 25" Magnovox color TV/combo circa '68.

Now all you need to find is an old "Odyssey" game console. Does anyone remeber these?

You gotta figure that the on-screen display came from Odyssey technology (1972!)

I have the "intellivision" game to go with it. As far as I know, RCA or Zenith did not have a similar set offered at the time, I have a '79 system 3 that has osd but that is 2 years newer than the maggie. RCA had the Colortrak with osd also, Think that was around the same time as the Zenith though. I am only going by what we sold and serviced then (saw the most of anyway), Mag RCA, Zenith. This particular set is very well built with hideaway doors as well as another control door. I'm sure it was rather expensive in it's day.
I like the pre N.A.P. Maggies and Sylvania "Supersets"and still have a few.

When did NAP take over Sylvania? My parents bought a 19" Superset in 1984, (when I was 13). I remember this set playing next to all of the others inside Highland appliance. The picture quality, especially contrast, was far better than any of the others.

This was also our first set with remote control, and our main TV until about 1990. It developed a problem with the digital tuner, and eventually they had enough. It was a good set for a while, then totally fell apart.

A 27" Zenith replaced it, which still works, but was retired in 2001 for a 35" set with an inferior (if larger) picture.

Had to have been around late '79 or early '80. I just repaired a 1980 magnavox for a friend and it has the NAP label. Maybe Sylvania was around the same time, I remember my sylvania tubes I bought from the local electronics supply (Electronic Parts Co.) (now long gone) changed to the "Philips ECG" brand around then too.

much of the magnavox stuff on the market today is funai junk

if you want to keep your crt replace that grey 4 lead cap on the board with the screen pots on it.250663-11 i think.
musta had my hands in a gazillion of these t995 sets.

This particular set had the mod previously done to it.

Funai I believe is a division of Hitachi....I think.

Why IS it that Funai stuff is such junk? I've got a TV/VCR combo I'm playing with that can't have more than 20 hours on it and something in the AC power supply section crapped out

. I can't believe I've seen a more ill-conceived set....you can't even plug in the damn connectors to the board to do some testing, the wires are so short that you have to have it all assembled completely for it to work.

Still works on DC though.....

This is the second Funai I've worked on....first one needed belts. Needless to say I screwed it up because you have to disassemble everything in the set to get at the VCR drive belt, had about a hundred cogs and gears lying there.

If you have a model# on that Funai, I may just have a good power supply board for it. I have quite a few new returns from a major store that made it to my recycling co.
Sadly it seems, That stuff is disposable now. They are made to be thrown out after a short life.

I was just at Best Buy the other day (killing time, not buying) and noticed several mini stereos with the Philips/Magnavox name.

Sure, I used to go through the bother of checking caps and replacing transistors or IC's in those switching supplies that are in the Funai, Symphonic, Mag ETC. Combos. But due to the sheer numbers that come in every week over here I am done playing "fixit" with this junk! If I can't just swap a board and be done with it Then it gets stripped and recycled. The units I do get going are sold or donated to charities.
Heck, When I do manage to sell a tv or a combo it is rarely worth it as most go for 25.00 to 50.00.
The better end of this is when I get the Video projectors in, The nicer Sony or Electrohome units go for 300.00 and up!
I don't mind taking a little time on something as good as those!
