Best of Solid State Televisions?
I was wondering what some of you thought was the best of the rectangular color Solid State sets? Lets keep the discussion from the beginning of solid state to the late 70's televisions. Are there some sets that we should be saving?
Today I came across a Motorola (MK843DW-1 SAMS 953-1) 6 foot long combo. It was in really nice shape. I was interested in the push button tuner the set had. I could not tell if it were a remote set or not. I did not inquire about the condition of the electronics. I left it there because of it being solid state. If that thing was tubed, it would be in the living room! Input? polaraman |

ditto kaye-halbert. Cant beat the zenith horizontal solid state chassis with the dura-modules. If there ever is a problem, its solved in about 10 minutes. Not to get off topic but related, the 19CC19, or any "CC" chassis ("4 tube hybrid") chassis is amoung the best for reliability too with two excepions. I have always had good luck with those and repairs were always a piece of cake. Only thing that is a predictable failure with those is the zener diode in the vertical blanking circuit, it will cause all kinds of jitter problems. lastly, the 221-48 sound IC shorts out and causes that annoying sizzle and popping in the audio. fix that and the set will last forever. Picture is outstanding too. Cant beat the razor sharp chromacolor picture. Gotta have one with zenith's gyro-drive continous UHF tuner, thats the best!

I would have to say the Zenith Chromacolors, followed by Sylvania GT-matics, followed by RCA. Those were the best sets to have in the 70's IMO......
