Zenith System 3 Dim CRT

A coworker of mine said he has a 15 year old Zenith System 3. He said just recently the picture started going very dim. He said he adjusted the brightness and it never did much. Since I really don't know this type of set I figured someone here would know. Is it a common problem or is it unheard of.

Thanks.

Jonathan

If it's dimmer on one side than the other, there's a cap in the 200v supply to the CRT that tends to open.

Andy,

Which cap is it? Is it the only one in the supply? I'll let him know and maybe he'll have me fix it.

Thanks.

It's going to be a high voltage electolytic near the flyback(around 20 uF at 315v was common in Zeniths). When it opens, the pictures gets dimmer, mostly on one side of the screen.
