Well, I've managed to do it, I've filled pretty much all available space in my house (correction, parents' house). I need to clear a lot of it out soon. The landscapers are here and we have a small roll-off for another few days, so I'm trying to make the best use of it. As much as I have gotten interested in the old televisions, I've just gotten too many to deal with, and they take up too much space, I can't get to them to do any work because of lack of space, and I never have time. So, I've decided to get rid of some of the less interesting/more broken sets. I'll post again in this thread as I get to more in my cleaning that I'd like to give away, so check back. Notify me by private message if you're interested in anything. I'm NOT selling these. These are free - I would much rather someone who can use them or use parts take them, as I hate to have to break them up and toss them into a dumptser.

First set - a General Electric model M759 AMP. It works, although the picture is very dim. Might not be the tube, but I'm pretty sure it is. It's a cheaper set, looks to be mid-late 60's. It uses a 23DYP4 picture tube. It uses compactrons and printed circuit boards affixed to a metal chassis. Cosmetically, it's pretty good, the cabinet is in nice shape with the usual wear and small scratches, but no water damage or unsightly damage. It's a pretty lightweight set, made of hardboard and wood. Pictures attached.

Second set - an RCA Victor KCS 108CRVB274 Deluxe. This one is in really rough shape. I have no idea if it works or not, but I doubt that it does, and it definitely doesn't work in it's current state. The plate cap has broken off the horizontal output tube, and there is another tube missing. The insides are filthy, and the cabinet is mildewey and dirty. The trim around the safety glass is mosly missing, and the knobs are covered in a powdery white mildew. The channel indicator is stuck somewhere around channel three, although the channel knob itself turns. The set is pretty heavy, but it's made of hardboard and wood. The chassis is an odd vertical affair which the neck of the CRT protrudes from that looks to be made of printed circuit boards on a metal frame. I have no clue if the picture tube is any good. I have no tester. Pictures attached.

Third set - A very cheapie Sylvania set. It's a 23" black and white consolette from the late 60's or early-mid 70's. The 'chassis' is a single printed circuit board with tubes on it. The set is very light, the cabinet is made of hardboard and wood, and is in decent physical shape, although there is a large gouge in the top front edge. I also have the legs that screw into the bottom. The picture tube is chipped in the middle, although it still has vaccuum. The set does not work, it powers on and flickers between a horizontal line and off, accompanied by a chirping/arcing sound. Caps maybe? Never had time to do much with this guy. One of the knobs is broken off, I think it's Volume. I didn't take a picture of this, but I can if anyone is interested.

Did a little more sifting, and took a couple more pictures...

Fourth set - A Magnavox Astro-Sonic console. It's black and white, and it's also solid state. The cabinet is in rough shape, the finish on the top is pretty bad, it's hard to see in the picture because of the terminals sitting on top of it. It doesn't work - it gets sound but no picture, I don't think it's getting any HV, but it was hard to tell, because the safety glass could have been preventing me from feeling the static. I didn't have much time to tinker with this one either. I do have the back, it's just not on the set at the moment. Pictures attached.

Fifth set - an RCA CTC38. I did some work on this one, if you remember my posts a while back (months ago). I never was able to get it to work. I am pretty sure it needs caps and a flyback. As best I can tell, most of the 38's need flybacks... The cabinet is rough, the finish is damaged on the top. I have the back, although the protective bubble for the tube is broken apart and missing. The tube seems to be ok, it still has vaccuum, anyway. The speaker is damaged (previous serviceman yanked connector off), and the UHF tuner is frozen. The tuner is currently partially disassembled, I have the faceplate and the rest of the parts and knobs. It has the sonic remote control module, which is currently also not inside the set. I _might_ keep that module and the tuner, that is if it is possible to connect it to my CTC28, although I don't think it is. Either way, I don't have the remote, so it's of little use to me. If someone has a use for the tuner/remote module, you're welcome to it though. Picture attached

Sixth set - a little Airline portable. It's in rough shape, untested. The antenna is broken off and the cord is cut. This is just how I found it. It's kinda cute though. Picture attached.

Well, captainmoody's got dibs on the tuner and remote assembly from the CTC-38, that leaves the picture tube and the rest of the chassis from the set unclaimed (as well as the cabinet, but the finish is pretty ugh).

Anyone want any of these other sets, or parts thereof? Like I said, I hate to toss them, but I have no space.

Looks like it may be an RCA Matrix tube in that ctc-38. If the type number begins with "23V" it is likely a Matrix type which has better performance than the older 23" tubes. Don't pitch that crt unless you know it's really bad cause you will need it on a future set. Especially if the flyback is bad then the set wouldn't have as many hours on the CRT. I saved a 23" crt from a junked out Hoffman set, and put it in a box stuffed with blankets in a closet...was able to use it to save an old ctc-38 with bad crt.

Yeah, I was thinking of saving the CRT, yoke and convergence board from the 38, I've got a CTC-28 that works, but not well. That's one of the projects I want to embark on, once I have the space to work on it... Right now the 28 is living off to the side, just waiting for me to resume tinkering. So far all I've done to it is check wiring and apply power. It works, the picture is a little off, convergence needs work, and the tuner is really dirty, but it does appear to be pretty functional. It's also got a bit of cataracts. Once I have space to work, that'll be one of my next projects.

BTW - how can you tell if the 38 has a black matrix tube in it from the front? The lack of cataracts?

I have a ctc-39 table model with the black matrix tube (23V type number) and the CRT looks and works so much better than the old 25XP22, etc. The one in your 38 looks very similar, no cataracts and a light grey color to the phosphor. Check the type number, this will help identify if it is black matrix or not.
