My first TV--SONY KV 1212

Can anyone offer a likely fix (or guesstimate on cost to fix) or a connect to other forums for what has become a real sentimental Box? I bought this 13 inch SONY Trinitron KV 1212 in 1975 and it has absolutely worked like a champ. Was devestated the other day to find that it is getting power but no audio or picture, and reset switch did not help; we have had electrical storms and lost power once, and I unfortunately did not have it plugged into a surge protector (bad on me!!). From web searches have found stuff like Q601 & Q602, and H.O.T, and looking inside the box I see reference to a fusible resistor (R524); of course I am not an electronics technician so I hesitate to try anything WAY over my head, but I know how to do basic soldering, and can certainly read the circuit boards

Am I a nut trying to fix this 30 year old TV?

think about taking it to a good TV shop. Many shops don't fix after people fix them unless your an expert on repairs. Do you know how old a kv 1203 is??? I just picked one up today, very happy with picture. Do you think this is 1973/74 TV??

I recently picked up one of these at a good price (KV 1212). Consider fixing set as would be collectable in 5 Years----worth fixing since has great picture. KV 1212 Set has better cabinet than my KV 1203.

For sentimental reasons, I'd like to buy a clean working Sony KV-1210U early 12" color TV as that was my first color TV back in the day.

do you have any experiance in repairing electronics?
can you solder?
if not if you can ship it to dayton oh i can repair it.
are you getting lights and crt heaters lit?
i see lots of these sets with shorted rectifiers and the fuseable resistor open.
a lightning induced spike is a likely cause.

Similar story, I bought a 1212 new I -think- in '72 or '73 and it has the exact same fault. Last time I asked around about it, I was told that it's likely the caps in the power supply. I've done nothing to it yet though, so be sure to let us know how you work this out.
