Expensive Motorola
I bid on that set up to $450 but it just got too high for me to justify. If I had one it, I was going to sell my restored Motorola 9VT1. I have a better appreciation for the set I have now and I think I will keep it and refinish the cabinet.
Ther is also someone on Ebay with a VT71 which he thinks is worth $1000.

Yeah, that set is pretty clean. Probably the nicest looking one i have ever seen. I was surprised to see that they even had the original box! This particular model is one I would like to have. I also like the wooden model. I really don't care fo rthe suitcase model.

I don't care for the suitcase models either. I know they are electronically the same but the covering material doesn't seem to hold up well. My 9VT1 is in a red mahogany veneer cabinet with a glass viewing window and round mask. It just looks so great. I don't like the fact that many round tube sets have a rectangular mask. It takes away from the effect of having a round tube. I want to see the curves on the sides. Last night I watched Burns And Allen and My Favorite Martian on it using my portable DVD player and an RF modulator. It looked like an authentic broadcast, no timebase errors, tracking issues or vertical blanking lines. It must have been just how it looked when new. I am going to replace the ceramic HV caps I put in with tubulars. The vertical hold drifts too much when it's first turned on.

The "greater fool"
I was the "greater fool" who won(?) this auction on what is easily world's best remaining round screen bakelite Motorola TV- plus the factory box without any retail stickers, shipping labels or writing on it.
I have most of the round screen Motorola's plus others from Zenith and Tele Tone. I actually have a 9VT1 which of course I will now sell off. It was simply too collectible, and, $800 is not too much in absolute dollar terms to own a piece so rare and beautiful from 1948. Murray Last edited by mkerdman; 06-22-2005 at 10:35 PM.

Hi Murray, glad you got it, hopefully you will give us a report when you get the set.
It's a boatload of cash for sure, but you're right, condition is everything and sets like this just don't come around often, it looks almost NOS! I noticed there are washers? between the chassis and the cabinet, never seen that on any set before, just one of those little details that get lost over the years. Eric

Yes, if you study the pristine virtually NOS condition displayed in the pictures in this Moto listing, it's amazing to think what we all otherwise accept as "Mint" in some of these 50+ year old sets listed/sold on Ebay. Murray

The chassis and tube in mine are working great but I would like to find a better condition cabinet and I need a set of volume and contrast knobs. I'm not asking you to part it out. I'm just looking to improve the condition of my set and maybe get some spare parts while I'm at it. I plan to keep my Motorola running and in regular use as long as possible.
