Korean Sets

I've been seeing many Korean sets in my TV hunting from the late 70's and 80's. They are all similar in build design and features. The brands i've seen were Daewoo, Portland, Daytron, and Samsung, but most say they are made by Tahan electric corp or something--who actually made all the Portlands and Daewoo's? I have always thought that was interesting

I have recently found two tube type b/w Sanyo sets made in Korea, from the mid-1970's.

Most of the Korean sets I have seen are made by Samsung or Orion. This is determined by looking at the sticker on the picture tube. The brand name on the front usually soed not indicate a manufacturer, just a distributing company. Today's Korean sets are not that bad. The cheaper ones from the '80s are junk, especially mid '80s Samsung black and whites. I know, I used to work on them.

I ask because this one Portland 19 incher from 1983 gets a spectacular picture, all I did was install a new degaussing coil. It beats out my '83 RCA colortak CTC117

I just found a 1984 CTC117A 13" XL-100. It has quite a good picture, even better than my new 13" JVC TV/VCR combo. I think I'll fix up the RCA and keep around for a while.

Yes I found your post, CTC117 was a good chassis, I like all RCA chassis from that time. I have a few CTC117-CTC121 sets. I was shocked at a korean sets quality, even inside. im watching it right now. Keep the RCA, good for you, pics look good, post a pic of the inside!
