Predicta Tv - Videokarma.org TV - Video

I won this Predicta TV off ebay and finally got my first one. My question is what is the approximate dimensions and weight of the TV? What is the best way to have it packed? The seller is going to take it to the UPS store in Jackson TN and I want to have it delivered to the UPS store about a mile from my house. Below is the ebay link for the TV.

Hi Ross,

the best way to ship that set is in two pieces, it's easy to disassemble but chances are the seller isn't going to be able to do it.

The UPS Store may or may not do a good job packing it, I had them do a Motorola for me and it came out OK but wasn't really packed all that great, plus they are probably going to ship it via UPS Ground and that means some rough handling.

You could try Craters & Freighters, they will pick it up at the sellers door, pack it properly and ship it to you via someone who cares like Menlo Worldwide Forwarding. It'll cost you a bit, probably $200 or more but better than getting a broken set, anyway the UPS Store will probably be $100 or better.

According to Mapquest St Louis to Jackson TN is only 267.94 miles!
Maybe a road trip is in order here!

Wow, looks like you got a great deal. What are you going to use to clean the innertubes as the seller recommends? Hopefully you won't need an innertube repair kit!

Yeah, I think I'd have to just take a Saturday & make the trip. Even at today's gas prices you should come out ahead & assuming you don't drive head-on into a Mack truck you know the Predicta will arrive safe & sound.

I should be getting the Predicta TV show via the UPS store in a week or so. The Seller had a personal crisis. According to one of my TV books the model or chassis no. appears to be UG-3408. I do not see a listing in SAMS for that TV. Do I need to get a manual that was made by Philco?

I am going to Memphis on the 9th through the 11th. Jackson is maybe an hour from Memphis, and I live in Fenton, St. Louis 'burbs. You wanna me to pick up the Philco for you? I can no sweat, no charge.

My Predicta is a UG-3408. Which SAMS does it use and does anyone have that SAMS that they could scan for me?

Ross, my Sams index does not seem to have that model number at first glance, but I will dig a little deeper when I get some time. If there is a Sams on it and I don't have it the St. Louis County library has a fairly complete set of Sams in the Tec. Ref. section. City library does too.

You can use 466-1, same basic chassis, different tuner. Also, your set doesn't have the local-distance switch.

I fortunately have the SAMS for the TV. I am not sure where to take the ohms readings shown on the SAMS that have no terminal connections. Also I have include a picture of the flyback. It appears if it is good I will need to use new silicon sealant on it.

I coated the flyback with silcon and tried out the TV. I got a picture and sound. I guess that means The flyback and CRT are good. Here is the picture I got on the TV.

The way it's pulled in at the sides I would say it has some bad filter caps!
That flyback looks really good, cracked from age but not melted and dripping like a lot of them are.

I've used Craters & Freighters several times to ship sets (including a Predicta set similar to yours) and they do an excellent job. Yes, they are a bit expensive, but well worth the price in convenience and quality.
