Avante Bermuda Shell White.....
Has anyone used MyPerfectColor site for custom paint? The Avante is a Behr color and I have the mix information. However, I feel if I paint the stand with a brush, it will look it. So I found a company that will make it and put it into 11oz spray cans. They only thing is, it's 32 bucks for the custom mix and 40 bucks for 2 cans. So if I'm going to spend 72 + shipping, I'd like to hear from anyone that's used them.
I figure 2 cans should be enough to give a couple coats to the stand and cabinet. Going by the factory paint job, they pretty much left the bottom of the cabinet with a coat of primer. The lacquer goes from the top and ends just after the bottom curve. Anyone have any advice on filling surface dings and other impressions? The paint isn't broken, but you can see several indentations. For broken paint and exposed cabinet, is bondo the way to go, or is that overkill? If so, what is a good filler to use? This project has me more worried than the restoration of the electronics. I want to do this right, so I plan on taking out the chassis and all controls, removing the CRT, removing the cabinet face and the cabinet top. It's the removal and reinstallation of the CRT that has be worried. I read somewhere that it's best to support the TV face down on a padded surface just smaller than the tube's face. Support the cabinet and remove the CRT's retaining hardware. Then lower the cabinet away from the CRT. Then put the CRT in a safe location. Reinstallation is the reverse. Sound about right?
