GE Mini Boombox Model 3-6025B Issues
Hello everyone today I found at a local second hand store a 1984 GE Mini Boombox Model 3-6025B that other than the plastic case being yellowed and the controls being noisy, and intermittent is in relatively good shape including a still functional tape player that is still playing at speed with the original belts yet. I was trying to see if I could use some contact cleaner on the pushbutton switches to get them so that they weren't intermittent anymore functionality wise and when I went to put the unit back together to test it the digital LCD Display was dead, and no matter how many different sets of "AA" batteries I tried in it I couldn't get the LCD Display to power up.
I also replaced the 2 biggest capacitors on the main power supply board to see if that did anything and that didn't work either. I would like to get this Boombox going as the tuner in this unit is based around the Superadio Tuner Chip, and I wanted to see how good of a Night Time DX'er this Boombox was, but since the tuner display is dead I can't do anything with it right now. The tape player and the Auxilary input works still but the tuner part is the only part that doesn't work right now. Does anyone here have any experience with this particular Boombox model (or its big brother the 3-6035?) If so what could cause a dead tuner/clock display, and what would be some possible fixes that isn't going to involve me having to hunt down a parts unit? Thanks for your help. |
