Magnavox Astro Sonic
Going to pull my 70 vintage Magnavox combo out of storage in the near future and start getting it back into shape. It's an original family set that has a lot of hours but not much wear, it needs a lot of work to get everything back in order and the first thing is a safe picture tube. Back in 2006 I attempted cataract surgery and this resulted in a stress fracture of the faceplate rendering it useless so I carefully mounted it back in the set, no kids or other hazards but I'd rather have the peace of mind with the cats around.
Last I remember it needs supply filter caps and there are numerous resistors that have shifted way out of tolerance, there's also an odd harmonic getting into the convergance that's causing the blue horizontal to ripple and no measure of convergance adjustments will flatten it. Biggest challenge is space in my 550 sq/ft studio apartment but I will get it in here. Set uses a T940 chassis and I still have the original Sams I first copied from about 1985, I may "blog" the progress here as I feel this is the best venue and maybe a good way to generate some more forum traffic. There were some pictures of the set floating around here http://videokarma.org/attachment.php...8&d=1638974374 and now I guess I have to make some new ones. The walnut cabinet is near pristine but for the life of me I can't remember the style name, maybe someone here can fill in this blank. Below is a 2006 picture that I had floating around, maybe someone can name that cabinet style?

That looks like the "something ambiguous, sorta contemporary" style cabinet to me.

Dad said it was the "modern Imperial", at over 6 feet wide I'd agree.

The tube isn't dangerous if the safety glass is cracked, only if CRT face is cracked.
Chip the old glass off, get a replacement safety glass (when I damage a safety glass I often run without it).

It's been without the safety glass since 2006 but I'm just a bit leery now with the cats in the house.
