RCA CTC19D mini console

I was watching a CL ad for 2 months, waiting for it to disappear. Newer versions once existed but here was an original 2.5 hours north. Nothing nearby that I needed to do until yesterday. Way out in the country and still an hour out of my way, but after talking with the seller, I decided to make the trip.

The CRT is a 19EYP22 that tests good, considering the set was not run for 45 years. He let me test it, so I handed him the asking price once I saw it wasnt toast. The owner's parents lived in Northern NJ suburbs, then moved but never plugged in at the "new" place. It was still on channel 13, WNET. At the new place, just UHF was available locally and no cable.

Back cover missing its crt cup and cord, but tag intact showing model as GH560W. The legs are stubs, as they were cut short for some reason. Most veteran RCA techs knew of this smaller chassis as the basis of the CTC20 last roundie, CTC24 - CTC31 sets using 23V" CRT and the CTC27 using 19" also. It also led to BOTL CTC38 and CTC39 consoles.

If that used the same neck protector as the CTC-25 and early modular SS color sets I have a spare back off a large early SS RCA with that neck protector...
If you're coming to the ETF I could bring that neck protector for you...

The weekend I don't have off is ETF, so hold onto the cup, if its the little brown one. I have your degauss assembly Chancellor Zenith combo - fair trade?
I might end up out there later this year, with alot of TV stuff that exceeds the lesser interest in TV at Renningers/Kutztown the weekend following ETF.

The model is called the "Townsend" and sold for $480, a lot more than the CTC20 21" roundie for 1967!

The contrast-vertical-horiz controls are thumbwheels like the CTC16x, 17x and 20, but no tone control.

Notice the gassed Westinghouse-branded 6KM6 and Sylvania 6GH8 tubes, no surprise there

RCA actually used 3 different size CRT covers for the 19, 23, and 25 inch sets. The RCA part number for the 19 inch one is 117347, in case someone might have one.

I can call Moyers Electronics for any RCA part, less than an hour away from where I got this set. Thanks!

Moyer's is an amazing resource... being that the CTC-11 is the set that'll be passed on to our engineer son someday, would it be smart to try to find a couple of the most vital parts for him, just in case? crt, flyback, &c? Already have all spare tubes (US nos) for him, but he's 40 now, by the time he's old it seems likely that nothing will be available anymore. Would Moyer's be likely to still have any of the most important parts that should be squirreled away now?

We sold several of the CTC-19s when they first came out, all table model metal cabinet. No particular issues with them, but the chassis' later descendants became notorious for eating 6GH8s.

What was it about the 6GH8? Though it seemed like every triode pentode comboout there sucked…

The 6GH8 was the go-to problem solver and some designs really worked them hard, with the 20% resistors some used the heating would run them beyond the rated dissipation and things would run away. The 6GH8 was also used as a phase spliier/driver in many HiFi amps sometimes running the triode beyond it's limits

The initial pentode-triode was a 6EA8 or 6U8, performed as well in a TV tuner as any other mixer-osc tube.

While the amplification factor of a 6GU7 was less than half of triode portion of the 6GH8, it made a piss-poor color amplifier R-Y etc. I don't recall replacing the 6CG7s and 6GU7s nearly as much as 6GH8As, which came in sleeves of 5.
