Philips X25K125A NTSC - Videokarma.org TV - Video

I found a photo from Canada, it would be a Philips X25K125A. The antenna connections show a TV for the USA or the Canadian market. Who has more info on this TV or pictures. I would also like to know which number of picture tube was used in this NTSC TV.

In the Netherlands also made this series in PAL. Model Number X25K121

If it's the round screen color in your avatar then it most likely uses some version of the 21FBP22 family ( which included FJP, GUP, GVP and a few other less common numbers). I've heard of Philips selling those color sets in Canada but I've never heard of any known surviving examples in North American in the over 15 years I have been collecting.

Wish I could find one of those Philips color roundys. (Especially since I was working for Philips MRI division till the end of last year) Vacuum tube European sets are exceedingly rare in the USA and only a little easier to get in Canada.

Yeah I don't think Philips sold sets in the US until they bought Magnavox, and even then they were US designed sets unique to the market.

I have seen Canadian monochrome TVs from the tube era. But they sold almost no TVs in the US till the Magnavox buyout... Except for protelgrams sold under the Norelco brand in the US.

Only Phillips built sets I saw were 13" & 19" sets marketed under
the US NAP brands Sylvania, Philco & Magnavox.
I assume Phillips built them because the chassii looked totally un -American.
Never seen a Phillips labeled TV until NAP used the name on the higher
end sets. But they used the US chassis that the other brands used.

The TV in the avantar is a Philips 21KX100A with a 21FBP22 picture tube. In the Netherlands these were test TVs for the PAL TV system. Still works great and is in my living room.

In my collection a number of TVs from the USA and Canada. In the photos a monochrome Philips from Canada. Perhaps Philips has been more active in Canada.

Now that story of the X25K125. In the Netherlands these are made under number X25K121 and the PAL TV system, has electronics clearly different from the picture of the X25K125. Perhaps the X25K125 were only sold in Canada. The photo was given to me by a person from Canada, TV is from 1968 or 1969.

I don't know about this tv in particular but Philips had a canadian factory. If I recall it was in Toronto. I have one Philips floor mode black and white set made in 1962.
I think it's 21" if I recall.

Hi Keith,

Good to know that the same picture tubes were used in Europe and North America. The A63-11X is a picture tube that is widely used in Europe. So also shipped to North America. Philips and Telefunken both had an A63-11X, but not the same production. The 25UP22 is that a picture tube made in North America, or renamed from A63-11X? You have a manual, does it contain a picture of the television from the front? I think the model design in North America was different. If you have a front image, can you take a picture of it?

I also have televisions from North America, including a Philips. My Philips is from Toronto, still has a sticker on it. This television was shipped to the Netherlands not long ago. The television will be 50's.

Interestingly, the Canadian set still worked on 25Hz power!

In the US, there was a pissing contest between Philco and Phillips in the 30's or such, therefore Norelco was the brand in the US. I suspect they might have decided that the shaver business was better for them in the consumer space. (it didn't stop them from selling broadcast equipment in the US.). There were a zillion companies selling TVs in the US back then.

Many thanks for the Philips K6 image. The model version is completely different from what was made in Europe. Indeed the K4's are very rare, will not be more than 20 of them in all of Europe. It is true that these TVs are original NTSC, later converted to PAL. You would think that the K4 was also sold in Canada or the States, but never saw one there.
