Is it the B&W version or color version? A model number will help along with a photo. You can do that below under advanced>manage attachments.

The VT-100 series is the first of the B&W Akai 1/4" video recorders introduced in 1970 or so. If you have what is on the packing slip you have the camera, recorder, side-car monitor and charger. The lead-acid batteries if you had them would be dead by now. I have had a few Akai's and all had problems.
This deck can record from the camera or from a monitor connected to the 8-pin connector on the side. It can only play to the side-car monitor or to a monitor via the same connector. Cumbersome on a good day. The quality of the camera picture is fair at best under good light and awful under low light. It is a vidicon camera tube and not the best quality. The tape was a special formula oxide for this deck. Audio tape will grind up the heads. It is likely that the rubber belts and rollers inside are not useable anymore unless it was frozen for all these years. The electronics are a 50/50 chance on it working. This is basically a home video recorder. Later models found a few broadcasters willing to try it on the air. Value is at the mercy of its novelty of the day and only to someone willing to take a chance on it working. The minus issues are listed. Don't plan a vacation on this one.
