Motorola VT 105 HV cage

Recently started a search for a VT 105 and one thing I noticed at every one I looked at in pics, I never saw one that had a HV cage. Every example I saw was missing it. Anyone that has a VT 105, can you see if yours has the cage, and post a pic of it. Its more out of curiosity, as I just find it odd that everyone I have seen does not have one

It's not a 105, but my vk-106, which uses the same chassis, has its high voltage cage. It's made of cardboard, so it's no surprise it was lost over the years.

Thanks for the pics!! Cardboard is a curious choice by Motorola but certainly makes sense why so few are still on these sets!!

I think the HV cage is attached to the back. The cardboard one above might not be original.

Interesting and like the HV cage, its equally hard to find one with the back, so the thought that the two are linked would make sense!

I also have the back for my set, I haven't examined it super close lately but I don't ever remember seeing any sign that a metal cage was missing from the back. I don't have a photo of the back of it saved but you can see from this photo it lays flat, no metal back. Maybe between the 105 production and 106 they switched design? My chassis is dated Oct 26, 1948, when was the 105 chassis built that had the metal hv cage?

The cardboard one may be original as I have the same thing in mine though mine is broken apart and all of the pieces are not there but the ones I have look the same as Bob's picture.

Bob, is that back for a 106? the 105 is stepped like a Skyscraper (like the one in pendulum's photo), mine is made of metal however (the back, the Fly cover is cardboard)

My 105 has a cardboard cover exactly like the one posted above (but missing part of it), not fastened to the back.


My mutilated HV cover, this is what happened to most of them I bet.

Yeah, I think it is a 106 back. My 105 back does not have a cover either.

Thanks all. Makes a bit more sense. At some point they switched from cardboard tback to a metal back or v.v. but this helps explain why I never saw a HV cage on any of them!!

So many vintage TV's are found with the HV cage/top and/or back missing that I personally don't even see it as an issue anymore. If by chance they're present it's a plus. The fact is, as a collectible, they work and display just as well either way.
