I got this TV working with just the usual recap of wax/paper caps (there weren't many) and electrolytics. And then there was a iffy and dirty H hold control. The plastic in-between the H and V windings on the yoke is just breaking apart which worries me, but the yoke works as-is (The last pic shows the yoke). One corner of the plastic back is coming apart too, but I should be able to put that back together.

Sugru for the yoke? I've used it to mount a little circuit board to a yoke on an Admiral, and to "lock" a disentegrating purity ring assembly on a Zenith roundie.

I never heard of that stuff before, I had to google it. It says it's non-conductive, so it would probably work. But I did a quick ebay search a few days ago and got lucky and found another yoke. I had also thought the H hold control was bad, that it had spots that were totally worn through, as sometimes I would barely touch it and the H freq would go way off, but strangely with the new yoke it doesn't do that. I also replaced a 1B3 with a cracked base. I still have to fix that cracked back before I put it back together though.

Cold..or HOT...chassis? I do NOT expect it uses a tube LV rect--likely silicon diodes..in a doubler or FW rect.

Cold chassis, with silicon diodes in a voltage doubler. But RCA tried all the different variations in power supplies. I also have a 59 and 61 RCA b/w portables. The 59 uses a power transformer and a 5U4, and the 61 is a hot chassis.

That is a neat set. Those years of RCA portables seem to be very rare.

And I think the 59 - early 60s RCA portables are some of the best looking sets.

Most glues would not stick to the back. I was finally able to repair it, but not in a way in which the repairs were not visible. So I tried to paint it, and then the paint didn't stick either! Stripper would eat right through this plastic. Now would I have to scrape and sand all this bad paint off the back and try again. Sometimes if you put on a really light coat, let it dry for a day, and then put the paint on heavier, it won't lift like this.

Easy Off Oven Cleaner will probably take off the paint without hurting the plastic.

As always, try it on an inconspicuous place first.
