Can the GE Portacolor chassis run a largr screen?

Or would it not provide enough power and/or require some other major fundamental change? How does the same TV chassis work with different sizes, anyway?

AFAIK, the Porta-Color chassis, seemed to be designed around the CRT size. The 10" CRT is a 70 degree and doesn't require a large horizontal output stage and they didn't need a real high 2nd anode voltage.
Ge built larger screen portable sets that used similar circuitry, but they were designed for a larger CRT, with different sweep and HV circuitry.

Just making everything bigger wouldnt work, it would
get too damn deep. The other GE portables of that era (16" & 19" +-)
used most of the same tubes etc. The 16" was kinda rare & the biggest
dog of the bunch. Never saw one that ran good. They also
had a Rube Goldburg channel indicator that broke up within a
year, we were instructed NOT to fix them.

The best way to answer that question for any given chassis is to see how similar the CRT in the set is to larger ones. If the deflection angle, gun type, focus voltage, and HV specs are the same or very close to those of a larger CRT then it could possibly work.

The portacolor uses an odd purpose built CRT so direct chassis compatibility with a larger CRT is unlikely. Though if you ignore the sweep CKT differences GE did use essentially that chassis CKT for larger sets.

Some of the small screen deltagun sets are likely compatible with larger screen CRTs since deltagun tubes were often very similar in specks among different screen sizes and ID numbers.
