Given a U certificate on first release it was withdrawn and next shown with an A certificate. 7 years old when I first saw it. Kept me (and my parents) awake for several nights. An invisible monster climbing the stairs to pull you apart.

Awesome film. Special effects exceptional, especially where the 'thing' is coming through the force field. I think this scene was drawn frame by frame by Disney artists.

Years ahead of its time; alter the 3D alignment of a model spaceship and the real one moves with it.

I was blown away at age 12 when the flying saucer in the opening turned out to be full of earthmen instead of aliens. A great start to a great movie.

This idea was later used in one of the best-ever episodes of "the Twilight Zone"

Hi All;
I first saw this film, as a kid, when the summer camp I was at, had to cancel their outdoor event cause of rain.. and half of us went to one movie theater and the rest went to another.. The one I went to was a re-run (at that time) of Forbidden Planet, about 1960 ish.. We filled the movie theater.. I was totally amazed, hooked, and tried to build the mind machine in my basement.. I have a VCR copy of it somewhere I copied from the TV.. I still watch it from time to time.. and I still am awed, hooked and love the movie..
