Looking for RCA rabbit ears
Just got ahold of ANOTHER "prison TV". It's an RCA (J13801CL in particular). It's a little 13" one with the clear polycarbonate case like most prison TV sets have. THIS one is immaculate and has a speaker (unlike the KTV one I found at a swap meet a couple weeks ago)
I did find for just under ten bucks the remote that works with it (ebay). That remote doesn't come with the TV, but when I saw there was an IR detector in there....found out what remote it was. NOW....I wanna find a set of it's little rabbit ears, but don't quite know what these type are called. It's a dual rod item that appears to just fit in a "hole" in the top of the set....with leads probly only 12" or so to reach the coax on the back of the set. I have many of the little matching transformers to connect the two leads to the "cable in" already. I've seen these before but I don't seem to now have a set of this antenna. They are usually a little plastic "T" with the round peg at the bottom...and the two aerials on top. If anyone can just maybe gimme a push in the right direction where I may find this particular "peg in a hole" style aerial? I'm currently using a regular set of rabbit ears that sit on top of the thing...and work great....but look kinda stupid. I'm just not having much luck looking on ebay for "aerial TV, antenna TV, rabbit ears, etc" for these little (probly $5.00 or so) antennae.

My Samsung had an antenna that plugs into a single hole and it has the v shaped dual rods. Perhaps the same thing?
Not a goo pic but you can see at the top the antenna fitting into a hole. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...gon/cables.jpg |

Okay....spoke too soon:
I put "rabbit ears TV" into the eBay search.....and did find (and got) these: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Universal-Ra...item43b5728fea This was pretty much EXACTLY what I was thinking of. I hope that "peg" is a pretty standard size. It appears to be since there were no details on that mount beyond the picture. Thanks 64! You pretty much nailed it like a MINUTE after I posted. The term "antenna TV" on ebay was a bit nebulous.....and "rabbit ears" surprisingly gets you ALOT of unrelated stuff. The secret was "rabbit ears" and "TV" together.

Yeah I think that's a pretty universal size. Your post was made right when I got on lunch. Good thing I caught it just in time. Lol
On my TV however, I am using that antenna in addition to a bowtie antenna, attached to a special adapter that plugs them both into my digital converter box. Got to have my VHF and UHF. |

If it helps, I have a RCA 100 TV that is from the mid 90s, and it uses the same exact size hole as my Samsung.

This set is pretty new.....I'm actually REAL surprised it has a manufacture date of January of 2012. It is a DTV set as well as analog. I use the antenna to tune into my in-house HLLY transmitter at 213Mhz (with a 5Mhz audio offset). I didn't wanna use this BIG thing sitting on top of the set with it's UHF loop when the "factory" antenna will work without even being extended...AND look more "stock".
These are neat sets.....but I think by "prison TV" deffinition they do not come with a remote....or a set of big metal rods the inmate can practice his fencing with :-P

Those antennas are common. Even Radio shack sells them. What's nice about them is they receive the basic HD stations on cable, where the convertors don't. |

If you ever want a remote for it.....After some digging around with the set's model number, I was able to find a few PDFs on it...and THIS is the (not included) remote for that set. It's the actual RCA one FOR this set...and not just a universal. I haven't received it yet from the seller, but this particular remote is what shows for it. You have probly already noticed there is an IR detector just left of the buttons.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/290800493577...84.m1497.l2649 No idea what all those funny little "app" buttons are for at the bottom....but I only hope to use it for real basic functions if I were to put this set up high somewhere.

Is that a CRT set?!?!? I thought they closed all the manufactures here by 2010?

FWIW I see that type of Rabbit ears all the time at Thrift Stores, I wouldn't be surprised if Radio Shack still sells them.

Yea, I got mine from a thrift store, WITH the Samsung it's attached too. It was still in it's original wrapper, never even used.
So naturally I used it. |

Joseph....It's a 13" CRT set. I'm at work now so can't take a pic of it, but it's quite clearly a chinese CRT. I think I remember "Chunghing" or something on a BIG white label with it's info. Deffinately one advantage to a prison TV is being able to see EVERYTHING inside it.
You guys that actually KNOW what and where happened to RCA, would likely know where this set was built. I'm guessing the whole thing is Chinese. Without it being completely transparent....it really would just be a REAL BORING 13" set. That CRT really does have a nice bright contrasty picture though. The set comes on in what I can only describe (as a car interior and lighting designer)....in a "ceremony". The set comes on with a blue screen like you expect with "no signal"...and the blue screen "opens" from the center like movie theater curtains. Does the same when you shut it off...they "close". That is actually quite odd to see on an "old analog set" even if you are used to it's little onscreen displays and menus.

DieselJeep.....
That remote I mentioned up there. It's deffinately the one for this set. Arrived this morning from that ebay seller and works perfect. The "Menu" button even brings up the whole onscreen thing to do ALL the tweeks.
