Sick Toshiba 20"

Hello everybody,

I am in need of professional advice and opinion for my troubled Toshiba.

1991 Toshiba 20" flat square tube
Model: CF2051A
Chassis: 8900

This set that will not immediately "paint" the bottom quarter of the screen after power up. It takes about 20-30 minutes for the blank area to sl-o-o-o-o-wly fill in. Also, the very top edge of the screen truncates all images and stretches the images vertically on the top third of the screen. As the screen slowly fills in at the bottom, the compressed images on the bottom edge of the screen are inverted. The truncation and stretching at the screen top does not go away after screen finally fills in.

This TV still still has bright colors, good sharpness and contrast. Otherwise, this set plays excellent for being 13 years old. This is the first instance of any trouble out of this TV since new. These problems slowly developed over the last 4-6 months.

Is this TV worth fixing? If I have supplied enough data, any best educated guesses as to what is broken? Any ballpark figures for a fix? Or is it destined for the junk yard recycler?

I would guess some caps in the vertical circuit are dying. I have a Toshiba FST from about 1989 that I need new caps for the vertical circuit and a diode upstream, pretty good picture. Worth fixing if you can do it yourself or have it done by a friend; about 30 minutes of labor to replace the caps.

look for low value caps .If I remember correct they were a redish color about 2.2 uf maybe c401 c406. the c401 ( if that reference is correct is close to the large 40-60 pin IC the other is near the vert. output as I said these are redish color all the othe caps are grren or blue. Hey its been almost 5 years since I closed my shop cant remember very well.
