would this GE use a porta color crt?
http://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedi...ctric-20275340
there is one of these on ebay that is withing driving distance (not interested in one that would have to be shipped) Does anyone know what the the CRT is? I found this old link that has a bit better pic than the current one. the CRT seems to have the right 'look' about it. |

It's a similar CRT; but, not the same as what was used in the tube portacolor TV's. The set in the picture is the solid state model that took the place of the tube portacolor TV's during the late '70's.

I have a couple of the "solid state" versions of that crt, used, in the attic. I was also hoping they would work but all the references say they don't cross. I'm not real sure what the difference is; I wonder if anyone here has tried to make one work?

not the same as in will not work, or is it still a 3 gun in line and will work just not the exact same. Also I wonder about focus voltage, mine has the low voltage 11SP22

Bryan, do you recall if it was a single gun like a trinitron?

I think the basic gun is the same, 3 in line. They use the "bar" phosphors instead of dots, I forget what the 11SP22 uses. I don't think I have a reference book that gives the specs on the newer tube. I do recall somebody posting once about what the difference was.

well hope someone can chime in. Good to know in case one shows up close by.
I would like to try a more modern CRT just to see if it looks any better than the orig. If its just the focus, I suppose I could rig up a voltage divider off the anode to work that out. |

Besides the focus voltage, the pin-out is different.

oh so the luma and chroma is fed to the cathodes, well that pretty much kills it.

Two different CRT's and will not interchange.

I remember confirming the answer as "no", many years ago, but I don't remember the details.
