Looking for a 1980 GE TV Set

When I was around 6 or so I was given my Grandmother's old 1980s ish 19'' GE TV Set. Had to give it up a couple years later (~1995).

I've always loved older technology such as that (and that was my first) and have spent years looking to find it again. I did find on ebay the remote which was rather cool. Perhaps someone reading this has seen this model and can post pics or information about it.

Specs: 19'' CRT, Wood Grain. Speaker on front behind a black fabric. Red LED Channel Display. 3 buttons on front (Power, Vol Up, Vol Down) Door on front that hid a channel keypad. Color/Tint/etc on front on bottom. Attached are Pics.

Welcome to VK! With some patience, you will find it. What part of the country are you in? I doubt you'd want to ship one. I believe one or two of the guys on here have similiar models.

Thrift Shops are a good place to haunt for a specific piece of gear from that time period.

I saw a similar GE in a house my folks were considering purchasing last week. I could tell you what house, but I'm not going to have any part in pestering them over an old set in the garage. It had numerical channel keys on the control panel, and a two digit led channel readout.

I'm in Portsmouth Virginia. The TV was made in the Portsmouth, Va plant back in the day. My mother worked there in the '70s up until it closed in 1985 (so during that period everything in our house was a GE Product) haha.

As for having one shipped to me? Eh, might be costly but if I could find it, I might be just dumb enough to pay the charges. lol

Would this be one of the GE's that had the double sided circuit boards with all the rivets? They were decent sets, especially after all the rivets were soldered. I did a bunch of them in the day.

i have 2 of those remotes both nos. they are marked close to a 100.00 bucks i think. steve

I had that very same TV in my bedroom years ago and loved it. I had forgotten all about that until I saw your post. I sold it in a yard sale and replaced it with a GE stereo Tv.

The GE TVs from that era were good performers. The color quality was fantastic. We had a 1980 Montgomery Ward badged GE. It was a 19" table model with infrared remote, keypad tuning and a cloth speaker grille. I think it was a high end model as the setup controls were behind a tilt out control panel much like vintage RCAs. These sets are well worth keeping and restoring.
