Mercury TV in Chowchilla - Videokarma.org TV - Video

I haven't been collecting that long but I have seen a few tvs in my lifetime. I can't remember ever having seen a Mercury. Does this set look familiar to anyone? The phonograph and the cabinet design, picture tube display leads me to believe it about a 1952-3. Looks like a Dumont of that era too.

You never know. They were a small player. They also were a supplier to Sears. I never saw one in the mid-west.

My treasure hunter nature is getting aroused!. Chowchilla is a little California inland San Juaquin Valley (pronounced, "walk keen") town not too far from where I grew up. I'm planning to go up that way in a few weeks anyway to drop off and pick up some sets from Tom A's shop in San Jose. Maybe I'll drop by and take a look.

I don't know what is worse for those records stacking them without jackets or letting the cat sit on them.

I have that exact set sitting on a dolly in my garage right now. I'm either going to restore it or part it out. I'm waiting for the schematic to arrive. Its a Pacific Mercury

As an aside, when I was a kid, I envisioned a "Chowchilla" as some sort of GAWDAWFUL Chow Chow/Chinchilla mutant mix that attacked w/o mercy...

OK now for sure Brando must have used one of the two of these sets. Afterall how many Mercury set are there in the world?

I believe it says made in Los Angeles on it. Let me check and see if I can find the pictures...
This thing is loaded with wax caps that all have to be changed. I was thinking of replacing them all disk caps ,Maybe it is worth saving........

Nice decaying yoke cover. That's a very early model. It has the oldest VM three speed changer in it. I wonder if they made the chassis for Natalie Kalmus. SP?

It may be up for adoption if a loving home comes along. It need a lot of love, the main thing is the big parts are good.

From what I could make out on the other set your looks to be in much better shape. If your really going to restore the set you have I could pick up the other one in Chowchilla for you (just the cassis and CRT) and then you could be pretty sure you would have extra parts incase you need them.
