Whats this old Emerson worth? - Videokarma.org TV - Video

I was on ebay the other day and saw an old Emerson that was located about 15 miles from me. I am in contact with the seller and could possibly buy this tv. What do you guys think i should pay? I'd easily hand over $50 for that set.

For sure, I would hand them $50 for that set. It is a transformer type, not series string (most likely) and it appears that the only thing that "may" be missing is a back. Nice cabinet, knobs are there. And since it is so complete, I would buy it even if the CRT is bad...

Not a porthole, since it has a CRT mask, but it has that "big round screen" look that's somewhat unusual in tabletops.

That's one of the biggest HV cages I've ever seen on a small TV. Curious.

It does have one missing knob.

As with all of us, there are many sets that I wouldn't take for free let alone drive to pick one up. However, I have picked up a few in the last few years that were near mint and those seem to be the ones that the owner wants to get rid of immediately. So I rescued them as if I don't buy or take it you know where it will end up. Thrift stores are the worst to take care of anything and the emphasis seems to be fishbowl aquariums for younger people who won't keep it around long.

This Emerson is a unusual set and in rather nice condition so if it is your cup of tea, I wouldn't hesitate to fork over $50, 40 or whatever he will take for it. There are many sets we have poo pooed on the last part of out lives and we have to remember that they are not making any more of them AND I have seen so many lately turning up that are in very poor to trash condition that aren't worth taking a second look at.

These were great sets and were quality constructed that can easily be made to working condition unless trashed and finding nice ones if you notice, are getting harder to find no matter how common they were at one time. They may be a little easier to find in say, Chicago or other larger city but there are collectors in smaller towns who would like to have one. Remember, if it isn't for you, the set may be lost forever in the dumpster so do your part for a nice one!!

If that 16AP4 is good, it's definately a plus. That's the first 16" round CRT. IIRC, that tube can be used in a 16" Zenith porthole. That Emerson, when restored is a fine performing set.

Thanks for all the replys. I will have to pickup this set. I had no idea it was this big. Does anyone have any idea what model number this set is? I tried to do some research online and can't quite figure out what it might be. I truely have been bitten by the bug. I just picked up my second set a few days ago. I will start another post on that find.

Ah, just found it in Riders Vol #5. It's a model 631 which does use a 16AP4. That set must be huge
